Question: How come classical music and opera are not as much heard by teenagers as other genres!?
In my school for example, I'm the only one who listens to classical and definitely the only one that loves opera!. My friends say it's style, like I have a more aristocratic - diva look, but I don't think that's it!. Your opinion!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Depends on the people that surround you!. Maybe where you are or who you hang out with, it's more common for people not to listen to classical and opera!. I play piano and cello, so naturally, I would be surrounded by people who listen to almost nothing but classical music just because of the electives I take in high school, without having the efforts to look for them!. Plus, nowadays, people don't really have the patience to sit down and listen to how complex the emotions are in classical music and opera!. People like to keep things simple - how loud the music is and how ferocious the guitar/drums are and the lyrics usually set the mood for songs; while all the classical compositions and operas sound the same to people who don't give the effort to appreciate!. 1) It's not "cool" to like the music your parents (grandparents!?!?) do!.
2) Most (radio-friendly) pop music is designed strictly for immediate appeal!. It's hard for a work of art to compete with music for mass consumption!.
3) Most pop music features a LOT of repetition, which makes it easier to learn!. It also often doesn't exceed 3 minutes, which is about as much as most teenagers can take, in terms of attention span!.
The same thing is true about other art forms!. Will the average teenager prefer to look at the Far Side, or an Andrew Wyeth painting!? Or even movies -- will the average teenager even consider watching Casablanca!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

However, perhaps you're just looking in the wrong places!. I go to several orchestras and bands and so have met a lot of teenagers who do enjoy classical music which we can discuss and get excited about in the same way other teenagers get excited about rock bands etc!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

That's me as well!. I think it's just because it's unfamiliar to them, so they avoid it!. They believe that myth that classical music is 'boring' or 'lame', when it is the exact opposite! also, most teens just like to listen to what's popular at that very moment!.
Maybe classical and opera just surpasses their "three minute-three instrument" attention span!.

There isn't really anything about either that grabs you by the gonads and squeezes the feelings out of you! Compare the Three Days Grace lyrics for "Home" or "I Hate Everything About You", or Puddle of Mudd lyrics for "She Hates Me", to Beethoven's Fifth or Vivaldi's "Four Seasons"!. The classical may flow and all but it doesn't relate to anything in the daily life of anyone including teenagers!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
Maybe the lyrics aren't as relevant or catchy!. Some kids can relate to some songs,,try doing that with classical music! And the newer music get's the happy with nice beat and witty lyrics!. I'm a teenager and I like everything, depending on my mood!. But who knows!.!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

i think the ppl surrounding them make a difference wouldn't it be obvious if a boy has exposure to classical music than a boy who hasn't!?besides classical music might not be suited for most teens!.!.!.maybe they're not mature enough i guess!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
