Trumpet Questions?!

Question: Trumpet Questions!?
I have a few questions about trumpet!.

1!. How can I stay devoted to trumpet practicing!? I always seem to just not find motivation to practice!.
2!. Are there any really good things I can work on to improve range and stuff!?

Any tips about anything trumpet related would be nice I guess!.

ThanksWww@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
1!. For motivation, try working on some music you really enjoy!. If you are required to practice something (for band or lessons) that you're not fond of, then use something you like to play as a "treat!." If you can get through [insert practice goal here], then you are rewarded by getting to play [insert your favorite music here]!. If you don't want to play something, you won't be very motivated, but if there's something enticing related to playing, you'll be drawn to playing, rather than trying to put it off!.

2!. To improve range, work on buzzing exercises (sirens, etc!.), and make sure you always warm down as well as warm up!. Brass instruments are unique in that you not only have to warm up your lips, but warm them down as well to keep your chops at their best!. Warming down takes you down from your higher register into the "basement" of your range and pedal tones!. One way to do this is to start on a higher partial and work your way down (not moving fingers, of course) until you're playing as low as possible!. Warming down after playing will help preserve your embouchure!.

Always try to aurally visualize, or "audiate" a note before you play it!. This helps if you're playing a large interval where you have to change partials, especially!. Audiation is basically hearing a note in your head, or what I call your "mind's ear!." Just as when you hear the word "red" you can visualize that color without your eyes having to see it, you should have some idea of how a note sounds!. If you think of C in the staff, try thinking of how that pitch sounds, and how you need to set your embouchure to hit that note, and then play it!. Pick notes at random and try this!. This will help you lessen the frequency of "flubbed" notes!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Find another instrument that interest you more or find another hobby!. If you were really interested, you would feel like you can't find enough time to practiceWww@Enter-QA@Com
