Question: What do these lyrics, Vindicated by Dashboard Confessional, mean!?
Hope dangles on a string
Like slow spinning redemption
Winding in and winding out
The shine of it has caught my eye

And roped me in
So, mesmerizing and so hypnotizing,
I am captivated, I am

{Chorus}
Vindicated
I am selfish
I am wrong
I am right
I swear I'm right
Swear I knew it all along
And I am flawed, but I am cleaning up so well
I am seeing in me now the things you swore you saw yourself

So clear
Like the diamond in your ring
Cut to mirror your intention
Oversized and overwhelmed
The shine of which has caught my eye
And rendered me
So isolated, so motivated
I am certain now that I am

{Chorus}

So turn
up the corners of your lips
Bite them and feel my finger tips
Trace the moment for forever

Defense is paper thin
Just one touch and I'll be in
Too deep now to ever swim against the current
So let me slip away
So let me slip away
So let me slip away
So let me slip against the current
So let me slip away
So let me slip away
So let me slip away
So let me slip away

{Chorus}
Like hope
dangles on a string
Like slow spinning redemption!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
first verse: he's comparing his hope to something that's merely being held up by a string, winding, and hurting his eyes, almost like the inevitable fact that he's not going to get "someone" and it's hurting him!. but despite how he notices, and despite how it hurts, he can't stop wanting, and wishing, almost like a hypnotic sensation over him!.

chorus: he's finally realizing, after this mistress left, that he has some shaping up to do, and he's determined to change for her sake (assuring for her sake of course)

second verse: now he seems to be comparing his realization like a ring she owns (one he could have bought her, per say) and how much of an "over sized and overwhelmed" burden all of his troubles are, and such!. now he's sure he's got problems, and as he proves in the chorus, he wants to change!.

bridge: this is merely describing the body language she might express during that time!. "turn up the corners of your lips" being to smile!. He's also saying to trace the outline of his fingers, and never let that moment die!.
"Defense is paper thin", clearly, meaning his defense is very minimal, and he doesn't have much to say on his behalf, and now, during this part of the song, he sees he just can't change, and that she needs to just "let him slip away"!. This is where the song begins to become negative and sad, of course!.

The song is a very thought provoking song, but unlike most love songs, it is very realistic and can relate to many real relationships!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
