Not only is he possibly the single most talented DJ to ever touch the decks, he's been hugely influential in so many other ways:
- His crew (the Invisbl Skratch Piklz) changed the entire culture of DJing!. It used to be all about finding rare records and then hoarding the sounds to yourself!. You used to NEVER find DJs who would let other DJs know what breaks they used!. The Piklz changed that by making DJing a community thing!. They said, "Hey, here are the breaks we've used and we can't think of any more creative ways to use them!. Why don't you take them, come up with something new, and share that with the rest of the DJing community!?"
- Back in the late 80s/early 90s, the role of the DJ in a hip hop crew was being diminished!. He was one of the first to offer an alternative solution for DJs by stepping away from crew and focusing on DJing as an art unto itself!.
- He introduced the concept of tonality into DJing!. So now, rather than turntables being used strictly for percussive sounds, they could also be used in melodic ways as well!.
- He was so inventive that he was banned from competing in the DMC battles because other DJs refused to compete against him!. So he decided to retire from battling and focus on seeing how creative he could make turntablism!.
- He almost single-handedly legitimized a place for Asians in hip hop!. One magazine has listed him as being among the 100 most influential Asian-Americans!. Ever!.
