I am a somewhat new drummer and I'm looking to buy my second set!. But I have no idea what the term ply means!. Which is better: a lower number or a higher number!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
The drum shells are usually made by sandwiching thin layers (plies) of wood together (the same idea as plywood!)!. This adds strength to the finished shell!.

Along with the diameter and depth of the shell, thickness of the shell affects the pitch of the drum!. The thicker the shell (more plies) the higher the pitch, the thinner the shell the lower the pitch!.

You also want to keep the thickness of the drum shells fairly consistent from drum to drum to allow more range when tuning!.

Why do you need more then one drum set!? I don't think any drummers really ever need more then one set, besides they're expensive it's much cheaper just to add pieces to it and it'll increase the value of the set should you decide to sell it!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

A HIGHER NUMBER!.!.!.AND I DO PLAY DOUBLE SET OF DRUM'S FOR 20 YRS NOW, TRY IT YOU'LL LOVE IT!. YOU'LL BE ONE IN A MILLION THAT DOES!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
