Edit: I did not realize this answer would be so long, but please do read it; I have said some solid, useful things!.

It will be good if you can get yourself a singing teacher!. You should actually be able to take it as a subject!. I do not suggest you take it as a subject, but as an extra subject!.
In the high-school curriculum of South Africa we had six subjects, with the possibility of doing a seventh subject!.

Doing singing as a graded subject will include practical, theory and music history!. You will learn how to read sheet music in staff notation, and you will learn to sing technically correct, in a way that does not force or strain your voice!.

I know how parents can be, your mom may not be too happy with you doing music as a subject, but if you do it as an EXTRA subject, she will likely let you, because it means you are not giving up a "more beneficial" subject!. It does mean extra work for you, but if it is what you want to do!.!.!.

If you are going to do it as an extra subject, you need to make the decision now, as you are young enough!. If you put it off, you can still do voice training as an outside, independent activity, but doing the graded exams will be better for you, as it will stand you in good stead, and be better for your future!.

Truly, the best path is vocal training!. Why!? Because as you said, everybody wants to be a singer, and training is the only way you are going to become a GOOD singer!.

I sing, and I wish that I had started sooner, because now I want to study music at university, and I am going to have to hurry to get my grade 8 in singing, and I will only be able to start in September next year (and I am already 24, which is still young, but not as young as other people entering university)

Do not speak to your parents about this yet!. Go to your guidance counselor at school and find out all the details of how you can go about taking music as an extra subject, then when you know exactly what it is you will be doing, you can present a solid, reasoned argument to your mother, which she will be more likely to approve!.

Doing singing with a teacher also means that your teacher will set up concerts!. My singing teacher, Jill, got me into concerts I would not have been in otherwise!. An absolutely amazing honour was singing with her (their were sing of us singing) in the concert in the park with the Philharmonic orchestra!. Amazing experience!.

A teacher may also be able to network you with other musicians, with whom you may be able to perform!.

Two of my friends from South Africa, through doing singing with Jill, were accepted at one of the best theatrical academies in London, and they start in September!. They have incredible futures in performing; but they could not be studying at one of the best theatre schools in the world without training!.

Training, training, training!. Even if you think you want to sing popular type music and not opera, good technique is good technique!. Learning to sing many styles, and in many genres can only help you, and give you depth as a singer!.

So, speak to your guidance counselor!

Good luck, little one!. I'm sure you have a bright future!. It is good that you know that this is your dream NOW, and that you are not realizing later!.
If it is your dream, reach out and do it!.

By the way, you are actually a year too young to be on this forum!.!. lol!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I would start small at your church (school is a great place to sing and be heard too) or a local Kareoke place!. The biggest thing about this kind of thing is that you have to extremely pacient!. You also have to perservere and one day get discovered!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

maybe if there's any talent shown or anything like that sing in everything you can and maybe you will get noticed!. Its worth a try!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
