Music theory question?!

Question: Music theory question!?
I know that major keys are identified with uppercase roman numerals, but there are some exceptions, such as the ii, iii, vi, and vii !.

What about the minor keys then!?
Which ones are uppercase!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
Uppercase roman numerals designate major chords, lowercase minor!. No exceptions!. ii, iii, vi and vii are, predictably, minor chords built on the second, third, sixth and seventh scale degrees!. I assume you've seen a list like this:

I, ii, iii, IV, V, vi, vii°

These are the basic diatonic functions in a major key!. If you build a triad on each degree of the major scale, without any accidentals, these are the chords you'll get!. The lowercase ones are lowercase precisely because they're minor chords!. (The ° after vii indicates that the fifth is diminished!.)

Note that the numerals are not used to identify keys, but chords (or perhaps more accurately harmonic functions) within a given key!. There's a very significant difference!.

I hope this answers your question!. Ask if you need it clarified!.!.!. and hopefully I'll see it!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
