Question: Why you feel (or don't feel) that Hip-Hop music and culture is bad for African American youth!.!?

I'm a huge fan of hip-hop but I feel like hip-hop with no substance is destroying the youth not just African Americans either all youth that is into hip-hop!. We need to start getting alot of these children listening to more positive rap!. People like Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Common, Nas, Kanye West, & Lupe Fiasco!. But when you got songs coming out like "She Got A Donk" they think that everything in hip-hop revolves around topics like that!. So overall I don't think its bad but we need to educate more on whats good hip-hop and whats bad hip-hop!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
People need to stop getting this s*** twisted in their minds!. It infuriates me when people say hip-hop is destroying the youth!. It is not hip-hop that is corrupting the young black boys!. It could be argued that RAP is doing this!. There is a difference, pointed out by the legendary KRS-One in the song 'Classic' -

Basically I see nothing wrong with the art of emceeing, deejaying, and b-boyng, although I do somewhat see a problem with graffiti art!.
The real problem is that in rap music, lots of it is promoting, sex, drugs, crime, and hustling!. If more of the youth (not just african american, but hispanic, white, asian etc!.) listen to this kind of rap, then it will be bad for the youth!. I think it depends on the message they are listening to!. The ones I see on the news who are committing crimes usually listen to music about it!. It's subliminal!. But so is TV and the environment they grew up in!.
Most of their fathers weren't even there to be an example which my heart goes out to most black African women who have to struggle raising these children on their own and have to work at the same time!. Back in the days hip hop had meaning!. Now a days, hip hop is not good for the youth!. its all about money, cars, guns, and women!. Hip hop has def!. lost its respect!. our generation looks up to wat these hip hop artists do and try to imitate what they see!.!.!.!.!.and as a result, it is badly influencing our african american society!.!.!.!.!.not all hip hop tho!. ppl like kanye, lupe, and common try to make difference as well!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
You can't blame music for the way our youth has become!. It all starts at HOME just like T!.I!. said in that panel discussion last year!. Get your child straight, and put them up on game so that they won't let music effect them in a negative way!.

No Hip Hip is a culture and Rap is the music but its Gangster Rap!.
I think most Gangster Rap music/ Crunk is bad for African American youth but its not to blame, Rap is simply a voice for all the bad things in African American culture and broadcasting it is simply the bad thing!. Because in America black people theres ancestors suffered the most than any other black group in the world not because of slavery alone but mainly because up until 1965 they were simply treated as second class citizens and inferior to white people!. Black Americans already got the mentality to never fall under white control so many chose to gain success on their own work on their own!. Then they were treated as if cursed and the mentality to think less of your own race and black on black started!. Add that to the fact that white majority in the country and economy today black communities have problems of not wanting to work for let alone with white people and to top it all of all inability to work with each other!. Then this hustle mentality was created!.

All this crap is a culture created from all the event in the history and Gangster Rap simply is a voice for these idiots to broadcast it not only in America but throughout the world because its gained high success!. The only thing is it barely effects any other race except the black race because worldwide we all had similar history, white rule, inferiority racism against us, mentality to work alone and hate our own!. So many black youth who grow up like this simply see rap and learn that bullshit culture quickly!.
I never have said all are this way but if your weak minded or easily influenced which mostly happens to people brought up by single parent or poor parenting which is major problem in the black community you can easily become weak minded and make stupid decisions!. Its not all of us because me a black person I certainly can listen to Rap I like it even the hardcore but my actions towards it goes no further than listening to it and enjoying it!. I think its because I have been exposed to all types of people and brought up by clever parents that I have a strong mind!. it can effect any person of any race but because the factors which cause it are more prevalent in the black community because of out history its more prevalent in the black race which in society makes everyone believe black people have problems as a whole race

You live in a white majority country and your black!. You have the mentality that you aint going to work for the white man!. The black community you live in barely is together anyways also family structures have cracks!. Then you watch TV and see these rappers who have made millions off talking about their so called life story; grew up in the ghetto black it was hard so I hustled my way to the top!. You wont care about him making millions from rapping as you know that is hard to become just got to be lucky but you say you can relate to what he was saying and if he did it I can too and also what else can I do in this so called White mans world!.
