Question: I learned to play my hi-hats with my left hand instead of my right!. Would that really matter!?
I learned how to play my hi-hats with my left hand instead of my right hand (I am right handed) and play my snare with my right hand!. Would that really matter, or make my drumming abilities suffer!? I can do pretty good that way though!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It might help actually! With drumming styles it's all down to comfort so do whatever you find easiest!. However, if you play open-handed (like you are doing) then it can give you a more freer style of play!.

I drum closed-handed (i!.e!. right over left) and although it doesn't feel to constricted, I feel that open drumming allows more flexibility!.

Plus it's strengthening your left hand (which is usually weaker for right handed drummers) because of your constant beat on the hats!. This can make rudiments much tighter and will probably improve your playing!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I was going to answer, but the answer above mine has it completely spot on!. Playing open handed can make your style more varied in the long run, thus interesting!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
