I completely feel the same way!.!.!.

It's a bit frustrating because you know you love that one band and then suddenly it's like this secret that only you had is out for everyone to know!. Then you hear other people talking about that particular band and they think they know everything about them, you think to yourself "what the hell, I loved this band way before you did!" It's like you staked a claim on them and now poeple are trying to get into your territory!. I get it!.!.!.it pisses me off!

Love SS by the way, it was the same way with me and my friends, nobody knew about them until FFY came out!. It put me off a bit from listening to ATIMS for a little while, so I stuck to listening to Awake until the buzz of ATIMS died out with my friends!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Why is it that people who listen to this genre of music always assume some kind of exclusivity or sense of ownership with a recording artist or group!? I'm talking about the whole "MY band" ideology!.

You never hear this kind of crap from fans of rock, or hiphop, or classical, or country, or jazz, or electronica, or even friggin' polka!.!.!.!. It's *always* the screamo scene!.

Music, like cinema, television, and theater, is purely entertainment!. That's all it is, entertainment!. I, personally, think it's unhealthy to attach to entertainers on such a deep level where it affects your own personality and self-image!.

You should enjoy to your music because you *enjoy* it, and nothing more!. Don't tell yourself that you FELL IN LOVE with an artist/group or their works!. It's emotionally reckless and naive!. If you have these feelings of "betrayal" because your favorite artist/group is now suddenly not "yours", it's a sign that you're taking entertainment waaaay too seriously!.

There is a certain point when someone crosses the line between being an appreciative fan, and being an obsessive fan!. When your style and fashion change to adhere to the "image" of your genre, you're approaching that line!. When your persona and intellect change, you've crossed the line!.

A persona warped by entertainment is easily identifiable by genre!. For rap; it's extreme arrogance!. For country, it's excessive conservatism!. For rock/punk, it's apathy and recklessness!. For emo/screamo, it's a lack of emotional discipline!.

To get so worked up over the delusion of exclusivity toward a recording artist, you kinda have to worry!. Having such a deep emotional connection with the fa?ade of a musical act is pretty unhealthy!. It's a clear cut indicator of underdeveloped
emotional discipline!. You're basically being sensational and alarmist with your "inner" feelings!. They call the genre "emo" for a reason!.!.!.

You must learn the concepts of perspective, relevance, and significance!. Perspective: Secondhand Serenade is just a band!. Don't put them on a ridiculous pedestal (Scroobius Pip, I know!.!.!.)!. Relevance: their success has NOTHING to do with you or your life!. Significance: it just doesn't matter!. Don't trick yourself into believing that something so frivolous is a bigger deal than it really is!.

Lastly, since you LOVE the band and their music SO much, wouldn't you congratulate them for achieving the success they so greatly deserve!? Instead, you're all butthurt because you feel violated and cheated!. You feel as if they broke this unspoken commitment with you!. It makes you out to be kinda selfish!.

If you're truly a fan, enjoy their success!. I know I love it when my favorite artists make it big!. There's nothing in it for you, so don't feel so "ripped off" when they achieve fame!. Make their success a little less about YOU, and a little more about THEM!. End of story!.

tl;dr: Get over it, and get over yourself!. Only then will you feel better!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
