At first I just listen to the beat!. If it has a nice catchy tune I will then listen to the lyrics!.
I don't usually pay as much attention to the sound of the instrument as I do to the singers tone!. I listen to the singers voice and tone most of all!.
I do notice the emotion presented, but it is more of a feeling that comes over me rather than me sitting and thinking about how the singer is feeling!.
The content of the lyrics do not bother me much!. IF the song uses foul language I won't sing the song in public, but If I like the singer's voice and tone, and the lyrics are heart felt I will most definitely listen to the song more than once!.
