Advice on buying a flute..?!

Question: Advice on buying a flute!.!.!?
I'm thinking of starting playing the flute because I am thinking of becoming a woodwind teacher when I'm older!. At the moment I'm about grade 7/8 oboe and 6 piano!. I was wondering which flute would be best for teaching myself with!. I want one thats fairly cheap (under £350 abouts), but not terible quality!. ThanksWww@Enter-QA@Com

Hello Daniel,

You really sound like a very serious musician!. Good for you!!!
Well, I am going to get honest with you here about buying a flute!. You want a good one!.!.!. one that has good tone and intonation, stays in tune well and is easy for a repair tech to tune up and repair!. The one flute that fits all of those characteristics is the Yamaha!. For your price range, I would look into finding a Yamaha 200 series!. Maybe a YFL 225 or 281 or 285!. This is a student model, but any other model would be more expensive!.

Please, Please stay away from brand names you have never heard of as these are cheap imports, no more than glorified toys!. There is a brand, perhaps easy to find where you live, but I also guard against that one!. It is called a Trevor James!. They do not stay in adjustment, and are all around poor quality instruments!.

You cannot go wrong with the Yamaha!. They have been making flutes for over 25 years and are still going strong and very well recommended here in US by private lesson teachers and band directors
Hope I have helped
