Guitar question ??????????!

Question: Guitar question !?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
What does a hammer on mean on a guitar and 7p5 on a staffWww@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
A hammer-on is basically when you play two notes on the same string with only plucking the string once!. Say you're playing on the 5 fret with your pointer finger, if you want to "hammer-on" to the 7th fret, you would take your ring finger and push down hard on the 7th fret, while your pointer is still on the 5th!.
The 7p5 you're talking about is called a pull-off!. Essentially, it's the exact opposite of a hammer-on!. In the 7p5 case, you would have your ring finger on the 7 and your pointer on the 5, so when you pluck the string the note on the 7th fret will come through, and then you "pull-off" the 7th fret by removing your ring finger, but doing a little pluck of the string with it as well, so now the note on the 5th string will come through!.
Hope that wasn't too complicated!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Based on the question I'm guessing you're reading this from tabs, so say you have something like this:

----------5h7p5----------

We'll look at the first two notes first:

----------5h7----------

Whatever string you're playing on, you're going to first strum the 5th fret as indicated, but instead of putting your finger on the 7th fret afterwards and strumming it, the 'h' in front indicates that it's a hammer on!. All that this means is after hitting the first note (The 5) with, we'll say, your index finger, instead of placing your middle or ring finger (We'll say ring) onto the 7th fret and strumming you're simply going to push your finger onto the fret without using your strumming hand to make any noise!. The name hammer on implies the neccessity of hitting the note heavily, otherwise the sound won't resonate very well!.
A pull off (The 'p' in front of the second 5) is showing that you're going to execute a pull off from the initial note, which is the opposite of a hammer on:

----------7p5----------

Say you have your ring finger down on the 7th fret and you're going to do a pull off onto the 5th, you're going to need one of your fingers already on the 5th fret, we'll say your index!. you're going to to quickly pull your finger off of the seventh fret, if you do this too slowly you'll mute the string, as is the case with a slow hammer on!. What should happen is the vibration already making the sound on the seventh fret will continue to work as long as the transition to the other fret is quick!.
Although hammer ons and pull offs will allow you to play alot faster as you advance it's not a neccessity, picking each individual note won't change the way the music works!. If you see something like this:

----------5h7p5----------

You can also play it like this, and vise versa:

----------5-7-5----------

Here's an in-depth breakdown if you have any other questions about the technique:

just make sure you dont just tap the strings when hammering on and pulling off!. you have hammer down and pluck it as you pull off to get the string to ring out better!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
