Now, I haven't seen any facts or documents about this but I think playing the oboe would stimulate your mind better than playing percussion!. With oboe you have notes and can play scales and actual pieces!. With percussion it's basically just rhythm!. People who play music can, and usually do, get better grades in school!. The top ten students in my class were in band, orchestra, or choir!.

Percussion is a lot louder than oboe, a LOT louder!. She would have to hear you practice!. Hands down oboe would be better to listen to!.

Find some really neat oboe concertos or songs on youtube and show them to her!. Maybe she hasn't heard a good oboe piece or really understand what they are!.

BIG HUGE ONE!!! You can get scholarships with oboe!. Oboe is an instrument that not very many people play (In my whole school of 2,000+ kids I only knew of 3 people who played) As for percussion I would guess close to 100+ played drums was in band, etc!.

This is what you're going to be doing, not what she will be doing (I wouldn't say that though, would probably backfire)

Good Luck!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Make this deal with your mom: you will practice your oboe the rest of the summer, and then play for her at the start of the school year!. If she cannot hear any noticeable improvement, then you will switch to percussion!.

If, however, she does hear improvement, she will let you continue your oboe studies for the next year!. (After all, what sense would it make to switch instruments just when you're becoming good at the one you really want to play!?)

No go fulfill your part of the bargain and practice!Www@Enter-QA@Com

You really need to clarify your question:

(1) "Ran out of room q inside": what does that mean; do you have a set of drums with cymbals, etc!. in your room!? The percussion section in a standard symphonic orchestra or band, contains quite an array of different instruments: I would guess somewhere between 10-15!. So, exactly what do you mean, by "play percussion"!?

(2) are you talking about playing in an ensemble of some kind at school, or just at home for you own private enjoyment!?

(3) is there a question of finance involved!? Oboes are not inexpensive instruments!. Will your parents be out an added expense to acquire an oboe for you!? Will the school provide one, free of charge!?

If you edit(Add Details)answers to the above questions, I may be able to offer some meaningful counsel; but without this information, I'm afraid I have nothing to offer!.

P!.S!.-Will check back later, to see if you have "clarified" your question!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Tell your mum that the world needs more oboists - you're a rare species, indeed, and having read some of your other questions, I gather that you're quite passionate about the oboe, which indicates that you have great potential on this instrument!.

Plus as an oboist you'd get so many more opportunities to play in ensembles than if you were a percussionist!.

Practice lots, keep improving, keep impressing your oboe teacher - I'm sure he/she will put in some good words for you, too!.

Keep working hard, and I'm sure your mum will see for herself just how serious you are about oboe, and supports your yearning to play!.

Good luck!
