Answers:
1!. judgement in writing new music!. do i like this or that better and why!? does this new piece fit here!? what scale should i play over this part!? etc etc etc

2!. improvising!. you've been soloing over john's C-D vamp for 10 minutes and he is about to shift gears!. knowing his propensity for minor tonality you decide he is more likely to move into Em than the brighter happier sounding G!. etc

3!. this should be obvious but, in all of music there is only 12 notes to choose from!. without the subtle nuances and attention to detail you have nothing else but those 12!. then we'd all be driving to work listening to Jay-Z sing about a doe a deer a female deer etc etc etcWww@Enter-QA@Com

It really helps with your critical reasoning skills mostly when you're improvising pieces because you have to think quickly what you would play next and also what notes are in that key!. As for reasoning capacity, I'm assuming that you improve this by analyzing patterns in music, and the more you do it the faster your brain will recognize them and process them and this carries over to many other natural brain functions!. Your attention to detail is really only improved if you are proficient at your instrument or want to be because then you always notice flaws in your playing however subtle they may be, and the better you get the more insignificant the flaws are, but you'll still notice them, which increases your brain's ability to notice small details or nuances, but as far as real world application of this goes, I doubt that playing an instrument has a dramatic effect on your attention to detail, however, the other two skills you mentioned will definitely improve with practice!. Hope that explained it to you!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

1!. It contributes to critical thinking skills because when your playing a piece you can't just magically hit the notes!. No you have to think that's an F or that's an A flat!.
2!. Music let's your mind flow, it has no barriers or limits, there is no reason or why to it, it just is!.
3!. In music every detail counts, you don't pay attention you don't get the note!. It's that simple!.

I encourage you to learn to play an instrument because study's have also shown that people who play instruments get better grades!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Well it helps with attention skills because you have to pay attention the whole time you are playing because if you don't then you are going to mess up or lose your place!. I think that people who play instruments are usually smart too becuase people who are stupid or just unintelliegent don't want to do something like play an instrument because they think it is stupid or nerdy when it is very classical and charming!. I should know because I play the recorder and the saxophone!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
