Can you train yourself to become a contralto or a spinto soprano?!

Question: Can you train yourself to become a contralto or a spinto soprano!?
Answers:
Contralto is a voice category in itself (the lowest female voice category), 'spinto soprano' is a vocal type within the soprano category!. It's unlikely that you can be both, because it's not just range that determines what kind of voice you have!. The colour and weight of your voice, as well as your 'break points' and tessitura (comfort zone), are actually more accurate guidelines for finding out your vocal type (especially for a more specific classification like 'spinto', 'lyric', etc!.)!.

Contraltos have a very dark colour to their voice, and their vocal mechanism is 'heavier' (most feel more comfortable singing in chest voice rather than head voice)!. Their break points between chest and mixed, and mixed and head registers, are much, much lower than those of sopranos!. Sopranos also have a much brighter sound and much 'lighter' mechanism!. You won't find a true soprano who's comfortable belting out notes in the mid to lower register all the time - they have to come back up at some point, because their comfort zone is higher up!. So how your vocal cords are built plays a huge part in classification!. If you're a soprano, for example, you'll never sound like a true contralto no matter how low you can sing!. And vice versa!. And if you're a light soprano (like a soubrette or coloratura), you won't be able to sing spinto stuff without damaging your voice, no matter how much training you get!. It all comes down to what kind of instrument you've been given!.

If you haven't had lessons yet but are serious about this, please be kind to your voice and find someone!. Without proper instruction, it's hard not to form bad habits!. A teacher will be able to tell you what kind of voice you have (though even this takes time), and will train your accordingly (eg!. he/she won't push dramatic stuff onto you if you're a lighter vocal type)!. It's possible to train yourself to be able to sing more notes, but for serious studies (classifications like 'spinto', 'lyric', 'dramatic', etc!. apply more to serious classical singers), it's best to get a teacher!.

you can certainly stretch your range with training - but if they are significantly outside your range it isn't going to happen - voices can only stretch so far!.!.!.some people just aren't meant for certain parts!. but work at it - with training you should be able to add at least half an octave to your range both higher and lowerWww@Enter-QA@Com
