Why do Guitarists get all the Credit?!

Question: Why do Guitarists get all the Credit!?
It seems as if bass players are last on everybody's list!. I don't hear too much about drummers either!.

I've noticed a lot of times if its a band that people are not real familiar with, the guitarists are the ones that get all the attention, why!? (i!.e Angus Young, Slash, ect)

But then, if its not the guitars its the vocals!.!.!.Bon Scott/Brian Johnson, Axl Rose, ect!.

Why don't the bassists or drummers get credit for their music!? They're contributing to the band, too!. Is it because people think guitar is the hardest instrument to play out of the few!? Or because singing is something they can do, too!?

I don't understand why people think that!. For example, Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue wrote 90% of the music for the band, founded the band, never left the band, overdosed twice, yet he's still playing bass and writing music for them today at 50 years old!. Kudos for him!.

Drummers always come first on my list, then usually guitars, vocals, and bass!. How about you!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
Because 80% of Rock Bassists, and Drummers for that matter are of an average skill level and nothing more, therefore in a band setting they just don't stand out!. In a Rock Band, as a Bassist, You gotta play some ferocious tricky Basslines to stand out!. The ones that do (Jack Bruce, Geddy Lee, Chris Squire, Lemmy Kilminster) get noticed!. It's basically the same for Drummers!. Anyody that just thuds along blends in, but if You lay out some tricky time signatures like Neal Peart!. Or smash through with the power of a Panzer Divison, like Carl Palmer, You get noticed!.

Anyway, that's My take on it!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I hear ya, I really love drums the best, they make the music come together in my opinion!. I mean you really need all of the instruments in order for the music to come together!. But the Guitar seems to get all the credit, I guess it is because of the men who played the guitar so wickedly!. Such as the great Jimi Hendrix, I mean he killed it!. So I guess that is why, but I do see where you are coming from, the other members are never acknowledged enough, I even find myself doing this!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It isn't like bass players or drummers don't get any recognition, but I do agree they get less then guitarists, I think it's pretty ****** up because bass and drums are not easy to learn and play well!. They take time and effort just like guitar!.

I really don't know why it is this way, and I'm not going to let it eat away at me!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Usually guitars and singers carry the melody, while drums and bass only keep the rythm going!.!.!.

guitarists stand out more: Clapton, Santana, Hendrix, Javier Batiz, Etc!.!.!.

Bassists and Drummers aren't all full of themselves like Frontliners!.!.!.

that's the bottomline!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Well mainly because guitar and vocals are the most prominent sounding thing to most people that dont play any instruments!.
Im a drummer so i know what your trying to get at, you never hear about drummers or bassists!. (Bassists you cant really hear unless there isnt one)!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

im guessing thats because bass and drums are more like a backbone to the sound!. when you here a song, the first thing you notice is the guitars and vocals!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Because guitarist like kurt cobain can also sing along and usually are the masterminds behind the whole sing such as writing, playing, everythingWww@Enter-QA@Com

I Agree,
I think it's stupid that all the band don't get reconised!.
Like imagine a band without a drummer,
The band is basically dead!.

Drummers come first on my list too!
=]Www@Enter-QA@Com

Us bassists are really awesome and so are drummers!. They should get a lot more credit for what they do, without them every song would be horrible!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

They ROCK! Dude, Slash is off the chain!. Can you rock like that!? That is why they get all the attention!Www@Enter-QA@Com

drummings hard as hell they never get any creditWww@Enter-QA@Com

Aren't bass players guitarists as well!? lol I know what you mean!. It's like the violin compared to the viola!. There you are with this beautiful, deep toned instrument, stuck in the middle of the orchestra where no one can really see you, and playing as support for the violins!. Who ever hears of a viola solo!? I have heard many great bass and drum solos though!.

Not everyone thinks that way, I can tell you!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Vinnie Paul defiantly does not get as much credit as his Brother Dime that's for sure for Pantera's work!.

Alex Van Halen does not get as much credit either as Eddie Van Halen!.

Lemmy Kilmister is probably the only frontman bassist that gets enough credit!.

I am a drummer so naturally I will judge the drummer before anyone else!.
I think usually a guitarist usually just defines the band with the tone and distortion they use!.
I mean when you just hear that sound your like oh thats that guy from that band!.

When you can do that about someone that is usually the person getting the credit!.

And more often than not its the guitarist!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

well, mainly it's more of a sort of stereotypical-ish thing!. in a lot of bands the guitarist is the singer, which usually leads for the guitarist/singer into being the frontman of the band, basically being the face of the band!. don't get me wrong, though, there are plenty of singers who were also drummers!. my band, for example, i may be the guitarist, but everyone remembers the drummer because he's our singer!.
the ramones, they could be an interesting example!. if you remember, they started out with joey on drums, with dee dee on vocals/bass, later on turining the vocal job onto joey who became the drummer/singer for a while!. afterwards, though, he became a full-time singer, making the drumming less taken on the spotlight!.
the thing that happens, when a band member isn't getting much attention, like the drummer or bassist, is that they change bands!. this often happens, so with the constant changing, one can't really keep up a lot in a way, and the drummer always can feel like the stranger of the band!.
this also happened to the ramones, especially at the end, when elvis and richie came along and became drummers!. they were bother something different, like something not from the same family!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Unfortunately, its the guitar and the vocals that one will recognize in just about any song!. The bass and the drums are for, in most cases, keeping the beat of the song!. In most bands the drummer and the bass player are wallpaper unless they have acheived some recognition as a great drummer and bass player!.!.i/e Neal Peart, Geddy Lee, Robert Trujillo!.

I dont know how old you are but iin the 80s their was a very popular So Cal band called Missing Persons!. They were members of Frank Zappa's band who went on to form a band of their own!. They were the band who had Dale Bazzio as a lead singer!. She was an ex Hustler or Penthouse model and her stage uniform consisted of fish bowls over her breasts!. Funny thing is, before they became famous and played the LA/OC club scene, they ALWAYS sold out each show, and it wasnt because of Dale Bazzio, it was because of her husband Terry Bazzio, the drummer for Missing Persons!. He had won almost every OC drummer competition and the vast majority of the audience went to see him play!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

There are a handful of truly great drummers and bassists who I will always recognise as being equally important to the guitarists and singers {and don't forget the piano / keyboard players!}!.

The band that always comes to mind first for me is Fleetwood Mac, who are notable for the fact that the only two members to have been there for 40 years are Mick Fleetwood {Drums} and John McVie {Bass}, who have been cited as one of the best rhythm sections in Rock!. Guitarist and singers may come and go, but those two have been a constant presance ~ so it's a good thing the band was named after them! In fact, can you get better recognition than that!?!Www@Enter-QA@Com

welcome to the world of bass players!.

I write the songs, arange them, tell the others how I want it to sound and the lead guitar/singer gets all the girls!.

They are the showmen of the band, the front line people!.

No one know that the drums and bass lock down the groove and really make or break the song!.

It is an ugly thing!. Been that way forever!.
Butt,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Paul McCartney
Gene Simmons
Geddy Lee
Chriss Squire
Less Claypool
Mark King
Victor Wooten
Rocco Prestia
FLEA
Stanley Clark
Bob Glaub
Duck Dunn
Marcus Miller
James Jamerson

and so many more have made it to the front line!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Drummers are the first on my list too!.
I mean, they have to keep up the beat!. And make it sound cool!. Lots of people must think that most bands pick up any average Joe up of the street and put them behind the drums and there, you got a drummer!. Or that they got a proffessional drummer, but hey, it must be easy to be a good drummer!. NO! I strongly disagree!. It frustrates me how naive people can be sometimes!.
If a guitarist is simply outstanding and mind blowing they'll come second on my list but otherwise vocals come second for me!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

bass is talked about less because in todays most popular music it does nothing but follow the guitar!.!.it basically is just a back up for it
then in a lot of metal the bass cant be heard or can just barely be heard as its filtered out in recording most fo the time sadly
and the bands that do show the full potential of their bassist arent always talked about sadly :/

as for drums i dont understand that
maybe its cuz people think "bangin on drums is easy"
its not
i never once have tried to play
but i know damn well id be horrible if i tired right now

i lvoe both instruments
though i myself am a guitarist
and to the person who made a comment about a 4 stringed instrument
screw that
id rather play a 5 string bass opposed to a four stringWww@Enter-QA@Com

drummers are my favorites too, and i know they don't get as much credit as lead singers or lead guitarists do!. i think it's because in a concert, the drums are always in the back, and people are just so amazed by the lead guitarist's moves, and they forget to look at the rest of the band members!. i think this is a drummer's curse--he must sit while he plays, he can't jump or anything like that!. meaning that good drummers get noticed and loved by the way they play, while boring and not-so-skilled drummers don't!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It's because they generally have the least talent in the group!. I mean come on, four strings, and no chords!. also, it's usually hard to hear the bassline of a song, compared to the volume of the drums vocals or guitar!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
