Question: Do you find it irritating or sexy when a guitarist or bass player wears his strap too long!?
I don't know where the fad took off, but for me it is up there with saggy pants on the irritating scale!.
If you look back at some old footage of guitar players in the '60's, (when they cranked out some of the best music), some of the best players played with shorter straps, even sometimes having the thing up to their chest!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Guitarist here! I see the long straps and figure - OK that's the dude with the power chords or rhythm!. The guy with the melody, the harmony in 3rds, the harmonics and the counterpoint knows where the neck, the frets, the whammybar, the tone and volume controls are and he keeps them all accessable!. Jimi didn't wear his down!. Neither does Eric or Jeff!. The lowslung stuff is for show (when you're short on talent)!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I play bass, and I like having my strap longer just because I feel like Ive got some breathing room between the guitar and me!. Its just a style!.

I think if I tried to play faster music itd be harder for me because Im moving my entire arm rather than just my wrist/forearm!. It just depends on the players style!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

i know a lot of different guitarists and they'll all wear it in a different spot, but it's to their comfort level of playing!. wherever they feel the guitar hangs best for them to rock out the to their full potential :-) haha perhaps now a days kids are being taught to wear it lower because of easier mobility of the fingers/hands or something!.!.!.who knows :-)Www@Enter-QA@Com

maybe that's comfortable with them!.!.!.I personally thought when the guitar was up really high it looked kinda weird!.!.!.but I don't care, they can have their frikin strap as long as they want it, as long as they play the thing like there's no tomorrow!Www@Enter-QA@Com

no feeling either way really as long as the sounds ok, bill wyman of the stones played his bass almost vertically, the first time i noticed a long strap was peter hook of joy division!./new orderWww@Enter-QA@Com

well when i play my guitar i have it so low the bottom of the guitar is below my knees and i can still play as good!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I think it looks better than having your guitar up in your face! Slash's style is my favorite :P
But then again, my friend Josh's strap is so long that he looks like a monkey when he plays! hahaWww@Enter-QA@Com

ehh!.!.!.!.!?
I never really though about that!.!.!.!.But no, as long as the guitarist is good, hey, what do I care about the friggin' strap!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Who cares!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Dude as long as it sounds good who cares!?!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

i like my guitar way up high, i like sitting!. i have more control!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I like down lower!. I personally like to have my guitar lower mainly because it's a lot easier rock out and throw some awesome guitar tricks in there!. But it looks so uncomfortable when it's all the way up to their chest!. But there's definitly a limit if they're sagging guitars as a style that's so lame!. I hate how music is changing more into style then the actual music!. People are listening to bands were the people look good and it's so retarded!. But my vote goes to saggin' the geetar!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

The low slung guitar is mostly for looks!.!.!.
Posing!.!.!.!.

It's harder to play, when the guitar is too low!.
It really limits what you can do on the guitar!.

Why do some do it!?

Look at the answers above,
a lot of people "judge" others on how "cool" they look on stage, rather than how they play, and it is a LOT harder to play the complex stuff, if your guitar is too low!.

That's why most "REAL players", don't!.
They hang it where it's comfortable!.

You have to decide, do you "wanna look cool"

or do you "want to play well, with good control"Www@Enter-QA@Com
