Question: Do you have to proficient at the guitar to play the bass guitar!?
My father and I are arguing about something!. He says that i HAVE to be proficient at the guitar to play the bass guitar!. I say i can buy a bass guitar get lessons and nothing will be different!. Is it absolutely necessary for me to know the guitar to play the bass guitar!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Hello,,the only difference is the bass notes are lower, the guitar and the bass are the same,except the size and frequency of the sound, if you have the ability to play the guitar ,then the bass will come a little easier then just learning the guitar!. BUT, for the sake of argument,,you need to find something better to argue about!. Just tell him to get out his old LP's and show you the great bass jams from his daze!. NO!.!.!.your dad is an idiot!. The playing techniques of bass guitar are much different than the guitar!. It would definitely help if you were proficient on the guitar just because the notes are the same!. But you can learn the bass guitar even if you have NEVER touched a regular guitar in your life!.!.!.
