How do you learn guitar? Do you just strum it? Why do you need to learn chords?!

Question: How do you learn guitar!? Do you just strum it!? Why do you need to learn chords!?
I REALLY REALLY want to learn guitar!. I have tons of patience, so thats not a problem!. I know some chords, but I dont know why I needed to learn them!. I dont know how to read music!. I really want to learn classic rock music (Scorpions, Heart) I know tabs, but I want to learn by ear, or by reading music!. I seriously dont know where to start!. How do all of the classic rock star guitar players learn to play those solos!? I know years of practice, but practicing what!? Do they just strum until they hear something they like!? Usually I just try to learn tabs, and sometimes, that doesnt even work! How do you learn by ear, or play solos!? Not only do i want to learn classic rock, but hard metal, country, plain rock, or just how to write a song for a girl!. All that good stuff!. Please, i need help!. Thank you very much!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Playing guitar is the greatest thing!. I've been playing for 25 years and I enjoyed it as much the first week as I do now!. It's a never-ending journey!. You can listen to some songs I wrote on mypace http://www!.myspace!.com/tomborland!.
Chords are where it all starts, especially if you want to write!. If you can play A, B, C, D, E, F, G chords, you can practically play thousands of songs and make up thousands more!.
I don't know how to read music and very few of the musicians I play with do either!. Don't worry about that!.
You should probably learn some basic theory (I know that sounds horrible) but here's some theory -- some chords sound better together and some sound horrible together!. Play an E an A and a B!. Sounds good because they're in the same "key" (E)!. Play a G, C, D!. Same thing, they go together because they're in the same key!.
If you hear a song you like and can figure out the key, you can figure out the chords quickly -- which is playing by "ear!."
How do you know the keys!?
Here's the easiest way to start!. There's a pattern, using power chords, you can follow anywhere on the fretboard and you will always be in key, no matter what chord you start with!.
Don't know what a power chord is!? Google it!. It's the most basic, two-string, chord shape!.
OK, here's the pattern, in G!. Play a G power chord - sixth string (the fattest string)/third fret and fifth string/fifth fret!. Now play a power C chord - fifth string/third fret and fourth string/fifth fret!. Now play a power D chord - fifth string/fifth fret and fourth string/seventh fret!.
You just played the chords for the key of G!. Now, you're ready to start unlocking the entire fretboard!.
Play a power chord that starts on the sixth string anywhwere on the fretboard and follow the same pattern -- drop down one string for the second chord and then slide up two frets for the third chord!.
Learn the power chords for abcdefg and the "open chords" as well!.
Solos!. More fretboard knowledge will help!. Here's a cool page that shows you the "scales" for all of the keys!.

If you can't figure it all out on your own (ha, nobody can) the internet is full of lessons sites, something that wasn't around when I started learning!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It really helps if you can find someone reliable, preferably a friend or a private teacher (NOT a music store) who can help teach you!.

You can buy a good guitar chord book, and that would help because it has diagrams as well as pictures of the chords being played!.

Best that you learn the chords G, D, and C first!. As to stumming, for starters you should strum down (away from your face) and up (towards your face) in this basic pattern: "down, down, up, up, down, up"

Once you are proficient with that pattern, you can focus on variations of it, according to which song you are playing!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Hello,,you could not run at birth so don't jump into the guitar,,you have to take it slowly and repeatedly,,repetition enhances learning!. The chords are made up of the notes so don't think you're gonna neglect one for the other!. The positioning of the strings+frets+fingerings are the first look at the guitar, if you have short fingers, or long ,means everything to begin with, the style of music means nothing if you cannot afford the various devices to reproduce the sound you desire!. SO, do some research most patient one, and discover the key to unlock the door!. If you are just doing this to impress some girl,,well you might as well just give her your money now!.And save the learning something better to the thoughtful!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
