Answers:
"Cornstalk Tunes" by Stanley Fletcher was published by G!. Schirmer in 1956!. It uses open strings and first finger only!. I searched for this book because I remembered playing a very nice selection from the book when I was in elementary school!. I got my copy through interlibrary loan!.

The best value for your money is "One Thousand Fiddle Tunes," published by M!. M!. Cole!. It is a collection of reels, hornpipes, clogs, and strathspeys!. There are no piano accompaniments, but piano accompaniments could be easily arranged by any person who is strong in music theory!. You will never outgrow this book, because the folk dances will always serve as sightreading exercises!.

Hans Sitt was a Dutch violinist and composer!. He wrote very nice music for violin students!. His best-known work for beginners is his 12 Compositions, op!. 26!.

With a little bit of luck, you might be able to find "Tanze aus der Barockzeit," or "Barock Dances," published in 1948 by Hug & Co!. It is a collection of short pieces, all of which were written by composers earlier than Bach!. The book was marketed to recorder players, but at that time, it was not customary to compose for specified instruments!. So when I was studying violin in elementary school, I felt perfectly justified in playing these pieces on the violin!.

G!. Schirmer used to publish "Ten Little Solos for Beginners in Violin" by Adele McNair Hamilton!. I'm biased when it comes to judging this book, because the composer was a friend of my grandparents!. The book is not currently published, but I ordered a copy through their archives department!.

If it's big names you're looking for, you can't do better than the 6 German dances by Ludwig von Beethoven!. For some reason, this composition is difficult to find, despite the composer's name!. I found it in the music library, in a collection of the complete works of Beethoven!. If you can find that same collection, you can find these dances easily!. They are the last item in the last volume!.

"12 Little Pieces" by Leopold Mozart is nice!. Apparently the stories of little Wolfy amazing people with his violin skills are exaggerated, because Leopold wrote these pieces for him the year of his seventh birthday!. These pieces are availabe through sheetmusicplus!.

My highest recommendation is "Begin With Pieces" by Wallingford Riegger!. How the world could neglect such a wonderful work by such a well-known composer is beyond me!. This instruction book starts with open strings, open strings and first finger, and so forth!. It is a collection of exercises and folk song arrangements, all of which come with piano accompaniment!. A complete performance of this book takes about 45 minutes!. This, too, you might be able to order through G!. Schirmer

If you are especially interested in any of these items, but can't find them, send me your snail mail address!. Some of them I have already loaded through my scanner!.

Moreover, I have written an easy violin sonata based on Korean folk songs!. I'll send you a copy of you give me your snail mail address!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

try the suzuki books!. they're really great; that's how i started out!. it starts out with book one (some really simple songs, like twinkle twinkle little star) and works its way up!. also, if you're looking into starting to play the violin, i would research the suzuki method!. it's really great, and a lot of famous musicians started out that way!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Have you gotten thru any "beginner" violin books!? Those would be your best bet for starts!.
I know the song choices usually suck, but the better you get, the more you will be able to play!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
