Why not the Beatles!? The beatles had brilliant bass melodies and Paul Mccartney is one of the best bass players of all time!. I would suggest forgetting the "rocker who hates old pop" pose for a moment and learning from true masters!. (BTW, I love Gn'R as well, and I don't mean to call you a poser for liking them and not the Beatles!. But I know that Rockers sometimes refuse to learn from artists because they're not "cool" enough, and that's a BIG mistake!)
Anyway, if you really don't want, just go with your favorite songs!. Finding random bass tabs is very easy!. just try to learn all of your favorites!. What I do with the guitar, is listen to all my songs (like on iTunes or something) and if there's a song that I feel like playing I find the tabs or chords and just play it!.
