Question: Why did Genesis become a rubbish pop band!?
Genesis were one of the most unique bands ever with musicianship and integrity!. Then Phil Collins took over when Peter Gabriel left and it was all downhill from there!. They became "the Phil Collins Band"!. Going from very inventive and fantastic rock to bland repetative pop!. WHY!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Well I wouldn't say that they went to "repetitive Pop"!. I find their kind of music with Collins rather unique and far from generic!. Still different from Gabriel's, no doubt!.
Collins just had a different vision for the band!. When he was just starting out with the band, he wasn't really all THAT famous!. I say that, because most people refer to Collins from most of his other "pop" works!. He did his fair share of decent rock, but it's sad how it all goes unnoticed, and people (that I know) only know him as "that guy who sang those Tarzan songs"!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Absolutely my feelings but Gabriel became so weird that nobody could work with him!.
It's a bit like the Beatles in fast forward!. Genius is always teetering on the edge of collapse!.

I often compare it to Star Trek, which changed from a mind boggling series with incredible ideas into a soap with lots of makeup which could be based in Birmingham rather than space!.

Excuse me! Both artist have served correctly in terms of how you define rubbish!. Naive to SAY one is better than another Peter Gabriel mix of folktales is intriguing whilst Phil Collins melody of classic ignite dancing!. Musicians only sketch pictorial for commercial purpose as a by product!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Money mainly!. They were starving as the Gabriel Genesis!. Even Gabriel started writing more main strem stuff, altho his stuff is much better than the Collins crap!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
