If I am playing the blues on the C pentatonic scale, must the bass be in the C s!

Question: If I am playing the blues on the C pentatonic scale, must the bass be in the C scale too!?
Answers:
Yes!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

No! Well at least not necessarily!. As you can play the C pentatonic scale over at least three different chords and have it sound "good" it is possible for the bass to be technically playing in another scale and have it sound okay!.

I'm a novice bass player at best, but when I do play bass I am outlining the chord, using mainly chordal tones and some passing tones!. In this instance I could be playing the root/fifth of a chord while you used another scale to solo over the changes!.

So the simplest answer is yes, but the more complicated answer is not necessarily!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

No!. There is a trick called cross-harp where you use a C harmonica for a G backing, to get the blue notes more easily!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
