Is Music Too Opinionated?!

Question: Is Music Too Opinionated!?
Ever notice how everyone has their own opinion on whether a band/song is good!? I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion and i respect that, but would a grading system based on rhythm, melody, difficulty, sound quality etc!. be too much to ask for!. Maybe I'm going way out there to try and make a grading scale for every song ever made but I think that record sales and the number of times downloaded are way too vague to rate a song/band!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

There'll never be a comprehensive grading system to judge music by!. Rhythm I guess can be objective, but some people actually prefer odd out of sync rhythms like the genres of IDM (Aphex Twin) and noise-core (Anal ****!.!.!.that will probably all get censored)!.

Melody is completely subjective, there's really no way to judge how good a melody is plain and simple!.

Difficulty I guess can be graded!. However it's not a great way to judge music since there are many awesome songs that are played with just 3 chords!. For example pretty much anyone can learn to play any punk song in less than an hour, but no one's going to dispute that it's a legitimate genre!.

Sound quality I guess can be judged; it's useless however because pretty much any professionally produced recording will have awesome sound quality!. also there are some people who prefer a grittier quality (like most Misfits recordings)!.

I agree record sales are a horrible way to judge how good a band is!. However there'll never be a grading system that everyone will be able to agree on since music is and always will be 100% subjective!. The only real way to judge what bands you might find good or not is just to ask someone with similar music tastes, and explore them yourself!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

CD Sales is the stupidest way of rating music ever imagined!. Ignoring the fact that the charts are full of rubbish pseudo-musicians, when a 'classic' artist that your dad listens to releases their 34th studio album it sells millions, just because it is by this particular 'over-the-hill' artist!. People have a right to say what they think is the best music or artist, but usually these people like typical mainstream music where every song is 4/4 and is max 5 minutes long!. The only thing that gives me comfort is that there is no confusion about this, they are definitely wrong, and while I may not be perfectly right, I'm closer to it than most!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

The record sales and the number of times downloaded shows that a band or a solo artiste is very popular with the people in all parts of the world!.

If you like listening to a band which has sold more than 4 million albums worldwide, and if someone says that the band is not that good, won't you disagree with him!?

You can't create a universal "music grading system", for all I know, but surely, you can ask other people to voice out their opinions about a certain song!. For better results, why not try listening to that particular song yourself!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

you can't really make a grading system for rhythm, melody, etc!. because some songs that have been the most successful and most loved are ones with the worst rhythm!. besides, music is all in the eye of the beholder, you don't have to like a song because everybody else does!.!.!. so, it has to be opinionated!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

music is an expression of ones self!. it is then interpreted by those who listen to it!. grading and rating music does not matter but to the simple minded, if ya like it ya like it if you dont move on to something you do like!. dont worrie about or listen to those who judge others work and listen to your own opinionsWww@Enter-QA@Com

the problem with a grading system is one would have to determine what's a good rhythm whats a good melody etc!. and who can determine that!. music is relative that can't be changed it shouldn't be changedWww@Enter-QA@Com

I agree with you to a certain extent, but there are songs out there that are your pretty basic C Em D G's etc!. that are beautifully lyriced and brilliant so, I think it's all just a matter of opinion, or what appeals to you more!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I agree Andy!

also taking into consideration that many "popular" songs are only popular because of their shallow and repetitive melody or lyrics!Www@Enter-QA@Com

I don't think that would be possible using the same grading system for all the different genres!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I completely concur
