Nice songs for developing coloratura soprano voice?!

Question: Nice songs for developing coloratura soprano voice!?
I really would like to pursue a career in opera, and am starting voice lessons (for the first time!) in a few weeks!. I was wondering if anyone knew some nice songs for developing coloratura!. I've been using vocalizes, but I would like to find a song to work on because I'm more motivated to practice by songs!. My 'comfort range' is from the G below middle C to the D# above high C, though I can hit up to a G clearly, just not with much flexibility!. Recently I've been asked to sing (at church and other functions) with about a weeks notice beforehand!. I would really love to have a song ready that is a bit more complex and new to sing if need arises!.
The songs don't have to be from operas, they just have to be a bit more challenging than the stuff I've recently been singing!.
The Lord's Prayer
Green Finch and Linnet Bird
O mio babbino caro
etc!.
Thanks!Www@Enter-QA@Com

well, for a fun aria, you could look at " mein Herr Marquis" from Die Fledermaus!. Since Adele is flirting with her employer's husband in the text, you'll probably not want to use this in church!.!.!.!.
The best coloratura writers were the composers from what we term the "bel canto" period: Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti!. Their arias are designed for flexible voices, and cover a lot of territory!. They are fairly well advanced stuff, though, so don't expect to get any of them down in a week's time!. this is more long-term!.
However, by going back in time a bit ( bel canto was in the 1820's and 30's) to Mozart, Handel, and even Bach, you will find plenty to choose from!.
A favorite for church comes from the Messiah, you can sing it in English, which cuts down the time involved learning text!. Rejoice greatly, o daughter of Zion!.
Check this out with your teacher first, since she/he knows your voice better than any of us do!.
Good luck!Www@Enter-QA@Com

I've been studying voice as a coloratura for 2 years!. An easy piece that you could learn really quickly is Rossini's "La pastorella delle Alpi!." The Italian is a breeze and the melody is not complicated in the least!. For something more challenging, maybe try "No, no I'll take no less" from Handel's "Semele!." Good luck!Www@Enter-QA@Com
