Simply put, yes!. If you want to do ANYTHING (and I mean anything) other than attempt to jam awkwardly with your friends, learn to read music for god's sake! You will use it and need it, you want to be called a musician, it comes with the territory!.

in general:
x notes are cymbal hits
o notes (normal notes) are bass/snare/tom/other hits
if you see three slashes through the top of a note, that is a roll
if you're playing jazz just learn the basic beats!.

yeah, im a drummer in band at my highschool, some notes i dont know but i just listen to how my friend plays them, but usually we just make stuff up if it doesnt sound right lol!Www@Enter-QA@Com
