Answers:
Mozart, for pure facility, is nearly unmatched in music history!. He conceived entire works in his head, before he wrote them down!. Schubert could so so as well, and more recently, Shostakovich!. Such an ability is rare, but it is not the only hallmark of a genius!.

Beethoven, like Mozart, had the gift of absolute pitch -- the ablity to know what the name of a pitch is when you hear it!. So writing music down posed no special problems for him!.

But Beethoven was an innovator -- he stretched the boundaries of the rules of harmony, form, scope, proportion!. He struggled with his musical conception, not with the music!. He was giving birth to a much larger baby, if you understand my meaning!. The larger the baby, the more difficult and painful the delivery!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

While it is true that Beethoven did not write as quickly as Mozart, and was less prolific (Mozart wrote over four times as many pieces), this has nothing whatsoever to do with the quality of his compositions!. He stands in the first rank among the Immortals of classical music, shoulder to shoulder with the likes of Bach and Mozart!. Beethoven's music is beautiful, powerful, totally original, possessing an amazing depth of feeling, and full of the highest level of musical genius!. The strength of his music is astounding--if there was some way to attach wires to his music, it could light up a small city!. Many people have considered Beethoven to be the greatest composer who has yet lived (for me it's a toss-up between Beethoven and Bach)!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I'm going by memory here, but first I have to say that anyone who thinks Beethoven isn't an intelligent composer (or who doesn't recognize what he contributed to the art) is ignorant!.

And his battle with deafness only really began somewhere around 1802 (after he had already written 2 symphonies)!.

Beethoven's music is split into 3 periods!. His first period pretty much kept true to the classical norm, though we see the beginnings of Beethoven (as we know him) here and there!.

Period 2 spans symphonies 3-8, and then there's a bit of a slowdown in his work!.

He's a symphonist who revolutionized harmonic structure, so do a little more reading before you make claims like that!. Easily as prolific as Mozart-- that's why people still pay money to go hear a Beethoven symphony at any concert that offers it in its programming!.

And don't even get me started on his string quartets!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

How are we meant to know!?
He did have a slight disadvantage of being Deaf remember!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
