Question: For those of you who don't like Jay-Z!?
Why!?
Personally, I like him, but each to their own!. I'm just curious as to what makes some people not like him at all!. Not that I'm saying you have to like him, just wondering why he gets so much hate from some people!.
I've heard the argument that he's "too mainstream", but I don't really see that as a valid argument!.
I'd like to know why you don't like him in terms of his musical ability!.
(this was inspired by Ant's thread - I saw Hov didn't get much love on it!)

I like some of Jay-Z's stuff although I'm not his biggest fan!. I'm one of those people who used to ignore him because I did write him off as mainstream!. But once I started to listen to him, I realized that--at times--he has really profound things to say!. I own Reasonable Doubt, Blueprint, The Black Album and his Unplugged album and think they are all great!.
I don't really have a problem with him but I do think he's somewhat overrated!. There's no area where he stands out to me!. There's not a single aspect of emceeing where I think he should ranked among the best!. I mean, Nas wasn't lying about Eminem murdering Jay on his own isht!.
When it comes down to it, I think Jay-Z is an above average emcee who was able to cleverly market himself!. I'm not mad at him for that, especially since he's never lost respect for the art of hip hop!. But I'm also not mad at anyone who doesn't like him because of that!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

If you're thinking about Glastonbury, this is because all the little bourgeosie white kids that attend are racists!. And I'll say no more than that!. Too mainstream!? Glastonbury is the epitome of mainstream!. The sort of bands that play at Glastonbury are the sort of bands topping our chart!. The festival hasn't evolved, it's passé and it doesn't even know it; and of course the molly-coddled attendees have no sense of perspective on anything!. Jay-Z is poor (just because he is) but he's a lot better than the 'rock' (srsly!?) bands that have played Glastonbury the past 15 years or so!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
Seemed like I'd heard all the stories before from previous rappers and he just added on to the hustler,drug dealer and hood ni99a scheme of things!.!.!.that just wasn't me!. Being from Brooklyn and raised in Bed Stuy I took alot of heat for it!. When they were bumping Jay-Z I was bumping The Roots and of course I was slammed for that too!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
The reason I do not like him and the reason everyone should dislike him is because he's wack!. He didn't blow up until Biggie died then after he died he recycled half of Biggie's rhymes!. Yeah i think cats overate him 2 much!.!.!. He didn't have nothin' on Biggie!. In my opinion he only had one classic & that was his debut album!. But all his other albums were pretty strong!. But he's weak 2 me now!. After Kingdom Come I didn't even bother listening 2 American Gangster!. But it's all good he's still in my top 10!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Hov is the man!. Regardless if you like him as a rapper, you gotta respect the hustle!. I hated Master P with a passion, but always respected his hustle!. I guess people feel the same about Jay!. I do like Hov though!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

To be honest, I think that Jay-Z is talented, but very cocky, and very full of himself!. One reason I don't like Jay-Z, is due to how MTV overhyped him so much in the early 2000's!. I'm not sure if Rocafella had a deal with MTV, but MTV is responsible for Jay-Z's rise to fame, which explains why alot of surburban white kids like him!. I don't really care what race likes him!. Another reason I don't like him is because I think that he is credited with being some lyrical genius when there are plenty who are more talented (ex: Nas/Biggie/ many others)!. I think Jay-Z saw the void that New York and the rap game was left with when biggie died, and he took hiphop to where Biggie eventually would have taken it!. I accept that he made moves the smart way, however, I do not except him saying that he is the greatest!. I think that everyone should look to Rakim when they even start talking about who's the greatest!. For him to come out and say hes the greatest, really is a slap in the face to all those who carried him!. **** Big Daddy Kane carried his ***, and even he said that Jay-Z rode what was popular and changed his style to fit what society wanted!. The greatest artists don't have to do that!. The great artists usually force society to come into their world, not vice versa!. Look at Biggie on Ready to Die or Rakim when he dropped Paid in Full, or Nas' illmatic!. I give Jay-Z his props because he is like a college intern who worked his way up, and finally got his time to shine, which is the true american dream!. Yet, I think that Jay-Z gets majority of his recognition from the MTV kids who listen to pop/alternative/ and flashy hiphop, females (which is another reason I don't care for him!. Its not that I'm sexist, but i get irked when i hear females, especially white females who don't know **** about hiphop, argue to me that Jay-Z is better than this and that person), and Biggie Fans who didn't cross over to Nas!. One last thing, Jay-Z lost alot of cred from me when that Nas battle went down!. One because he looked like a Snake, and two because he lost!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
I'm not really a fan of any of his work outside Reasonable Doubt to be honest with you!.!.!.in fact, that's the only album of his that I consider to be classic!.
albums like Kingdom Come, The Blueprint, and the Black Album are IMO overrated because of the circumstances in which they were released!.!.!.Blueprint peaked the Nas beef, the Black album was supposed to be his retirement album, and Kingdom Come!.!.!.well that was straight garbage no matter how you look at it!. Therefore, I think most people are almost brainwashed into believing that Jay-Z is much better than he actually is!. If it wasn't for the production, I doubt Jigga would still be as popular as he is today!.
And to be honest, American Gangster was only lauded because it was one of the better mainstream albums to come out last year!.!.!.although, that whole "too mainstream" argument has no basis nor validity!.
But I personally couldn't put him in a top 15 list!.!.!.

I don't care how mainstream some one is, as long as they're a good musician!. But, he is not!. At all!. He fails at music life!.
