What should I play?!

Question: What should I play!?
My mom says that this summer I can play an instrument since she couldn't get me in softball!. I want to play the guitar but it doesn't seem like she wants me to!. I asked her what she wanted me to play and she said the piano because that's what every parent wants their kids to learn!. But then she said it was up to me to decide!. She doesn't want me to play the drums either because she thinks it's to masculine and if I play them a church with a skirt on I'll have my legs open and uhhh!. Don't think about that!. Sorry!. But anyway, I really want to play the guitar but she says that she won't pay for lessons if I'm going to quit out when it starts to get tough!. I have prior piano lessons but they kind of sucked!. Please answer truthfully and no answers like, "Play the guitar, it's cooler!." or "Play the piano, people look up to that!." Just strait answers from the heart!.
P!.S!.- I do think the guitar is cooler!. :)Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
The short answer is that you should play the instrument you want most to play!. You success at learning an instrument will be directly related to how much you -enjoy- playing it!. For example, if you don't playing the piano now, it's possible that you -might- enjoy it later if you stick with it!.!.!.or maybe you'll just learn to think of playing music as a chore, or as a skill to perform for other people!. I truly believe that first and foremost it should make you feel good!.

Amongst the instruments you mentioned there are plusses and minuses to each!. Guitar is a great instrument that can be used in a huge amount of music!. It also has the advantage of being quite cheap!. Piano/keyboards can also be used in many styles of music, but tend to be much more expensive!. Still, they can be awfully fun!. Drums are quite expensive, and are also loud and take up a lot of space!. They are really only for people who live in houses and have patient families!. ;)

There are also various band instruments, which are ok but generally not as versatile!. You might also want to consider vocal lessons!. Singing is great fun, incredibly expressive, free, and used in just about every form of music imaginable!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
