Why are oboe reeds so expensive?!

Question: Why are oboe reeds so expensive!?
Answers:
Well, because they take so long to make - fiddly little critters! And of course, time = money!.

I've made bassoon reeds of my own, and it takes ages to construct them, then even longer to scrape them so they actually make a decent sound!.

And bassoon reeds generally last much longer than oboe reeds!!!

Because they are different!.!.!?!?!?!.two small reeds, that have to be sewn together!. Its ridiculous! When I played the oboe, I was constantly breaking them and my parents got sick of replacing them!. They were around 10 bucks about 7 years ago, Im sure they have gone up in price along with everything else!.
Well, at least us oboe players are unique since nobody can afford to pay for them! :PWww@Enter-QA@Com

Because
1) they are specialized products (not like common consumer electronics)
2) there ain't many competition around
3) they just want to earn money from you, knowing that no matter what, oboe players HAVE to get them!.
Just a simple case of demand and supply, really!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

because since it's such a rich quality of an instrument it has expensive requirementsWww@Enter-QA@Com
