Answers:
Bass players are always in demand!. Nobody wants to play bass!. I would go with the Bass!. Being a musician!.!.!.guitars and bass!.!.!.for 30 years I know what i am talking about!. you are right!. Guitar players are a dime a dozen!. Unless they can sing well or are extremely good guitarist there are many to pick from!. also it takes a long time to set up and tear down your drums and a van to haul them in!. GO WITH THE BASS!. you will be in demand if your any good at all!. Work on backing vocals as well!. Left handed guitars are not hard to find!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I might have a biased opinion, but speaking as a bass player, go for the bass!. I submit the following advantages bass might have over drums, in your situation:
1!. Learning Curve - I believe one can achieve a degree of competency on bass perhaps a bit more quickly than someone starting out on drums!. The riffs and more complex lines will come with time and practice, but there are a surprising number of songs whose bass lines don't require advanced technical ability, and you could start out playing many such songs!.
2!. Practicing - Get a practice amplifier with a headphone jack, and you can work on the same song for an hour and not drive anybody crazy!. You can practice scales on a bass and these have a melodic quality that paradiddles lack!.
3!. Gigging - as a couple of other responders noted, it can be easy to land a bass-playing gig!. Bass isn't a 'glamour' instrument, so if you don't always need the spotlight on you, bass can be a great ticket to musical happiness!.
4!. Musicality - bass is the bridge between rhythm and harmony!. The bass player covers both areas, and it can be very satisfying to have a grooving, syncopated bass line with a melodic shape!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Keep in mind that a bass is like a regular guitar, but a little bigger!. I believe it's possible to simply switch the order of the strings to convert a regular guitar into a left-handed guitar, or you could just learn right handed!. (I'm left handed, but I find most things easier with my right)

I'm a drum girl myself, so I say go with the drums!. Drums are the backbone of any good song!.

I'd go to a music store and see if you can try both out, just to see which you prefer!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I play bass and guitar, and I love both!. I'd say learn bass, you don't really need to go through lessons to learn to play!. Bass players are in extreme demand, so if you can get even half decent, you're more or less set!. also, most guitar shops will sell left and right handed basses and guitars, so it's not a huge hassle!.

Try going to a music store (instruments, not CDs and such) and testing out both!. I'm a right-handed bassist and guitarist, but I'm left-handed for a lot of things, too!.
Once you know how to play bass, you can learn to play guitar, it's not that hard, you just add two extra strings to it, the tuning is even the same!.

If you do decide to learn bass, email me at parleej@student!.ednet!.ns!.ca or add me on msn at moroninabottle@hotmail!.com!.
I'd be happy to teach you the basics of bass!.

also, drummers can sustain many injuries playing their instruments (a lot of people will say I'm an idiot or something, but my ex girlfriend sprained her wrist, and she's been playing for 5 years!. She's also messed up her shoulder pretty bad!.)Www@Enter-QA@Com

if you dont want to go through the trouble of looking for a left handed guitar!.!.!.!.you can always do what JimI Hendrix did!.!.!.!.play a right handed guitar upside down!.!.!.I have a son who just turned 4 and picked up a right handed guitar but picks it with his left hand!.!.!.!.!.if you go on youtube and look up Jimi Hendrix you will see some of his videos and notice that his guitar is a righty but he plays it as a lefty!.!.!.!.!.dont let anything get you down music wise!.!.!.!.!.if you have a talent for something, especially music you will know!.!.!.!.my son is a 4 year old guitar/music prodigy!.

I began with playing the violin in third grade, started playing keyboard in seventh, and now i play the bass guitar as a rising sophomore as well!. I would suggest the keyboard or the piano because it provides a base on which to build your skills on!.!.!.on the other hand, the drums and bass work together as a foundation for any song!.
just MY opinion!.
hope you find what you are looking for!Www@Enter-QA@Com

I'd say start with bass, because I can play bass and frankly, I found it easier than guitar!. Never played drums, but I have feelings they're much harder than they appear!. You have to be able to use both hands and feet separately and in different rythms!. Looks like it takes a lot of practice!. Of course, if you just want to play music for yourself in your spare time and not looking to join a band, I think guitars are the best for just sitting around and playing!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Hey I played clarinet in band when I was in high school!. for me the transition to drums was easy!.

I would go with the drums!. because with you already knowing the beats as on a peice of sheet music, using the sticks will be easy!. the part that will be the hardest is getting your foot to co-operate with yoru hands it will take a while but worth it I think!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

As an ametuer drummer I'm obligated to try to convert you to our side!. But really it comes down to what you enjoy and what you're good at!. Would you like to play an instrument that actually makes music and has notes, or take the less refined route that involves baging on hollow things with sticks!? Drums are fun because it's active and it's altogether different from the other, more stringy instruments, but you have to accept that you're a supplement to the music, not a lead instrument, you'll get time ofr fills and all sorts of flashy fun stuff but the guitar is mst likely going to be front and center most often!.

The bass is kind of a mixture of the two concpets, a bassisit is also important in keeping the band on time but it also has the whole string thing going on so you have to have good hand-eye coordination and have a good ear for what notes go where and what sounds good with the guitar and you have to have the ability to pick up on the guitarist if he decides to go off on a tangent!.

Obviously I went with drums, I enjoy it, the whole "heartbeat of the music" thing is fun, makes you feel important and you get to wail on stuff!. And since it's a different kind of instrument you can do things the others can't, like sure a guitarist can accent certain beats and such, but if you hit a crash or a roll and crash or a quick fill leading up to that certain beat it adds a whole new element that the lead instruments can't do themselves!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
