Answers:
Yes, I think it would!.
Especially the Cliff part!.
BUT!.!.!.!.!.!. if Dave had stayed, would we have had Justice and Masters!? (2 masterpiecess with essentially ZERO dave influence)!?
OR!.!.!. conversely, Peace Sells, RIP, Youthenasia, Countdown!.!.!.etc!?
I believe we would have gotten a few more great albums, in the vein of Kill Em All!.!.!. but IDK if they would have been better than what we got individually!. And remember, BOTH bands ended up going downhill and VERY commercial in their sound eventually!.
IMO, I think the firing of Flemming Rasmussen, and the decision to hire Bob Rock had more of a negative effect on Metallica's sound then Dave's leaving did, if on ewould try to look at it totally impartially!. Well!.!.!.!. that, and the fact that Newstead was doomed to failure with Metallica before he ever played his first gig!.
Had Cliff lived, and they retained Rasmussen (which I think they would have with Cliff's input!.!.!. I don't see him be willing to dumb down his style just to sell records!.!.!.!.), I believe Metallica would never have made the "mistakes" that they did!. (I can only say that in Parenthesis, because whether or not they made a mistake depends on your POV!.!.!.!. I doubt they really feel that way)!.
I think!.!.!.sometimes, musically when we wax eloquent about what MIGHT have been!.!.!. we gloss over the facts too much!. Like, how even the mighty Mustaine, was only a marginal success!.!.until he hooked up with Menza and Friedman!.
I lived throught the whole era, and honestly!.!.!.!. I think it was better they went their own way!. But Cliff dying was a tragedy that marred the Band from that point forward!.
And!.!.!. say what people want!.!.!. since we haven't any of us actually heard the final studio cuts of the new album, minus Bob Rock (thank GOD!), we don't know what to expect!. I do know, having seen them live several times since they released St ANger!.!.!.that they are finally acting like a band with purpose and direction again since they brought Rob into the family!. He may not be Cliff!.!.!.!. but to see the passion and enthusiasm they are playing with now, can only get Metallica fans excited!. Those who have been around know what I'm talking about!. The tours after Cliff's death, they never really had the same power!.!.!.and that became even more obvious after they burned themselves out wioth 2 solid years of touring for the Black album!. I had seen them 6 times from masters to Black!. and I saw them 4 times in the years from Black to St ANger!. During those concerts!.!.!. they really had nothing to give, and it was obvious!.
So!.!.!. despite the current Cool Kid trend to bash Metallica today, I will wait and see, and, for one, be glad that the fallout between Dave and Metallica gave us two amazing bands to follow, no matter who bad Dave still dreams of what MIGHT have beenWww@Enter-QA@Com

It would have been nice, but then again:
The way I see it, if Mustaine was still with Metallica, would there still be a Ride the Lightning or Master of Puppets!?
If Cliff was still here, would Metallica still be at their thrash roots!?
If Dave was still with Metallica, there would have been no Megadeth!. This includes, no Peace Sells and no Rust in Peace!.
When Dave left, we benefited because we got to listen to 2 great thrash bands!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I think we would have gotten a lot harder sound from Metallica if Dave and Cliff were still in the band!. As it stands now,James and Lars are the force behind Metallica,Kirk plays what they want him to and, imho,Jason and Robert were just hired guns with some creative control but not very much!. I liken it to Gene and Paul controlling Kiss!.
I think if Dave and Cliff were still in Metallica, the music would have been decided on a more democratic level, with each member getting a 25 % say in what to play as opposed to a dictatorship where Lars and James control just about every aspect of Metallica!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Yes and no!.
Yes
What happened to Cliff was so sad!. And I think if Cliff wouldnt have died that night, then Metallica would have released an album that would have been just unbelievable because what doesnt kill you makes you stronger!. I would have loved to see Cliff live and then see the next album they would release immediate following his recovery!.!.!.!.!.
No
If Dave wouldnt have gotten the boot, that means no Megadeth!! Which would suckWww@Enter-QA@Com

Mustaine getting the heave ho was something that was going to happen sooner or later!. Funny Metallica kicked someone out of the band for being to big of a drunk and junkie!. Ummmmmm in hindsight a little hypocritical IMO!. The Cliff thing was a freak accident it would be interesting to see where they would be with Cliff!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
Yes!.!.!.I watched Cliff em All again this weekend and am completely amazed by that guy every time I see him!. The video also had a preformance and some footage with Dave Mustaine and it is a shame it couldn't be worked out!.!.!.but hey, then we wouldn't have Megadeth - another damn fine metal band!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
Yeah but we got two bands that rock instead of just one!. Same thing when Ozzy left Black Sabbath!. Tony took the band in a different direction, and Ozzy did Crazy Train!. All of this band splits while often annoying at the time can result in even more creativity and enjoyment for the fans later!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
Dave did awsome stuff on his own and i like hamett, but cliff!.!.!. how does one die in that fashion!? crazy! poor dude, when i saw a special about it i cryed, eventhough when he died i hdent been born yet! burton was awsome and i wish he hadent died!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
It wouold be nice to have Cliff still alive, but if Dave hadn't been kicked ou, he never would have resolved to make a better band than Metallica and Megadeth would probably never have formed!. And I love Megadeth!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
Yeah!.!.!.but the reality is different!.!.!.!. so bad luck!
Still Metallica rocks!!! I love them and can't wait to hear the new CD, don't give a sh!t what others say about them!. I know what I like!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I wouldve liked if cliff wasnt killed!.
But as for dave, cant agree on that one because megadeth was a good direction for him i think!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Actually I would settle for Cliff not being killed!. Don't get me wrong, I like Dave, just not with Metallica!.
Good question, R&P seems a little lacking today!.!.!.!. \m/Www@Enter-QA@Com

Of course!.!.!. It would have been interesting to see how things would have progressed if Dave would have stayed with them!. That might have been what changed Cliffs fate!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
Dave leaving was for the best since we got Megadeth out of it!. I truly believe that if Cliff hadn't dies Metallica would still be as good as they were in the 80s!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
Cliff!? Surree, he would have never let Metallica make St!. Anger!.
Dave!? Honestly!.!.!.I feel that Dave going into Megadeth was a better choice for him than to stay in Metallica!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It would have been nice!. If nothing else, it would have been nicer if Lars and Cliff had switched bunks!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
Yes it would!.!. then every thing after And Justice For All wouldn't have been crap!.!.!.!.
However, trying to fit Lars' ego and Dave's ego in one room is a mighty tall order!.!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Ohh yes, it would be like a band that fell from the depths of heaven!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
sorry, I'll take jason anytime!. I don't think they lost anything when Dave left!Www@Enter-QA@Com
Yes that would pretty much have Ruckin Fueled Leech!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
I agree, i'm really looking forward to the new album!. I just hope we're not getting St!.Anger reloaded! LOLWww@Enter-QA@Com
