Can fat interfere with my singing?!

Question: Can fat interfere with my singing!?
Hi!. I'm fourteen, and I love to sing!. I'm also overweight though!. I was just wondering if being overweight can in anyway slow down your ability to sing, because sometimes I feel like it is!. Thanks!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
Actually it can!. Extra weight CAN hinder your breathing and breath control!. But in some ways, weight can be beneficial because it adds extra pressure to your muscle groups that need to be working while you are projecting sound in the most proficiently!. I had a friend (opera singer) that suffered a dramatic weight loss when she was ill!. She actually had to 'relearn' to sing some because she had to use her muscles differently since she didn't have the same distribution of weight!. This was all because she lost it so quickly, of course!.

Now, that's not to say that you can't lose weight and still sound marvelous! All of our professors encouraged us to exercise, eat well, and a healthy body produces the best sounds!. For the one or two students that were truly obese, they were urged to lose weight both for health reasons AND in order to realize that it would improve their vocal projection!. Realize that most singers aren't your stereotypical opera singer with a 'horn hat'!. That's because a singer should know they must treat their body as their instrument!.!.!. well, it IS their instrument!.

PS I'm not preaching!. I have a normal bodyweight but I don't always treat it the best!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I don't think weight much affects your ability to sing!. You should take the initiative to eat healthy, because that will keep your body healthy, and you need a healthy body to have a healthy voice!. But there is nothing wrong with holding a little extra weight; it shouldn't effect how you sing!.
Some people say that people with more weight actual have more power and projection; but I disagree!. I'm kind of little/thin, but one of the louder members in choir!. I project alot, not because of how my body looks, but because it comes naturally to me!.
Like someone previously said, singing is a gift! Take care of your body; but if you carry a little extra weight your notes will not suffer!Www@Enter-QA@Com

I can't say being overweight does so much!. It depends on the way you're singing!. Like in soprano, alto, tenor!? I mainly sing soprano!. You must use you're diaphgram instead of your neck!. (if you know what I mean) It really depends on your weight distribution!. Don't worry!.!.!.lose weight slowly and it won't make a difference!Www@Enter-QA@Com

I truly think that being overweight and singing it doesn't hurt you!. Im overweight and i sing mezzo-soprano and im a boy i have good projection and breathe support!. im 15 also!. Look a jennifer hudson she is overweight and a great singer so to me weight DOESN'T MATTERWww@Enter-QA@Com

opera singers are fat and they have a great voice!. you only need to exercises a lot, especially running!. thats it!. laziness will interfere with your singing!. however weight can have an impact on your voice, so if you lose weight, you might notice the difference in your voice!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I don't think so!.
Acutally, I don't know if this is a coincidence or not, but many of the good female singers I know are kind of chubby if you know what I mean!. I don't know if this is true, but maybe it even helps you have better support!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

fat gives u more ability 2 sing!.!.!.2 b honest look at most of the international gospel singers, they gave good voices they r fat!.but ma opinion try 2 lose abit of weight it will help 2 get more confidents!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

No way singing is a gift, you either have it or you don't, your physical appearance has nothing to do with it!.!.!.so don't let it stop you from doing what you love!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
