if you haven't seen the movie, you need to see it, it's amazing!. in the movie it explains this song!. it was originally written about his father who (back in those times it wasn't ok to be bisexual) used to beat him till he thought he'd turn straight, it never worked, his father ended up giving up on the idea!. princes' "purple rain" was his eyes being black n purple, and him crying!.!.tears (rain) he only wanted to see his father happy, he never meant to cause him any pain by being who he knew he was!.!.!.!.!.!.hope this helped!!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Being some-what of an old head the song if referenced to the movies title but the lyrics are based on the events that happened in the movie!.!.!.!.!.everything that he went through with his father and family and Appolonia how he saw his self his father's accident made him see things and life differently he started to make wise decisions instead of selfish ones and during that time was when kids were being rebellious!.!.!.!.He said he never wanted to steal you from another meant when Appolonia started seeing Morris Day that';s why he said that basically it's the wrong decision he made and how he saw them unfolding!.!.!.!.!.I know it's one of my favorite moviesWww@Enter-QA@Com
