Well, if we're talking old school, I would say Miles Davis and all the cats that contributed to the "Kind of Blue" album (John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderly, Wynton Kelly, Bill Evans, Jimmy Cobb, Paul Chambers!.!.!. plus the guys who contributed compositions and solos to it, like Monk, Parker, and Gillespie)!.!.!. these are the most influential figures in jazz, and their brilliance shines!

If we're talking modern bands that can flat out play, can play ANY genre (and DO!), and that basically own!.!.!.
It's gotta be "Yoko Kanno and The Seatbelts"!. They are the ones who did the soundtrack for the anime series "Cowboy Bebop"!. (Yoko Kanno is an AMAZING composer, by the way, and not just in relation to jazz!) Make sure to watch through the sax solo (kicks in 1:50)!.!.!. that sax player gives a new meaning to what life and music are- you will be hooked forever!

Of the modern day artists I gotta go with Jamie Cullum!. He's a twenty eight year old who can play the classics, do covers with a jazz twist, and has plenty of original material!. He's amazing live and just has so much energy on stage!. Plus he comes out on stage drinking a guinness, what more could you want!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

I really like Frank Gambale!. He's a super talented jazz guitarist that started making studio albums in 1986!. I like a lot of his songs because they're upbeat/relaxing, and include a lot of highly impressive guitar parts!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
