For people who play instruments...?!

Question: For people who play instruments!.!.!.!?
I play piano, and I have been for almost a decade!. I am already well into some of the big-name composers, but I have one fatal flaw: I CANNOT READ NOTES!

Therefore, it takes me forever to put together music!. I look at my teacher, who can play a piece in a matter of minutes after glancing at the page for barely a second!.

So, my question is, is there anyone out there who is really good at their instrument or who really enjoys playing their instrument but who has trouble reading notes!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
I used to have trouble!. What I did was

(I dont know how this would work out for the piano)

I would write the fingering or a hint at the fingering that i could easily read at the bottom of each note and it became automatic

i still do this for notes i am not sure of or for faster songs!.

It just takes practice =PWww@Enter-QA@Com

The eternal question: When is my son or daughter going to be able to just open a page of music and play It!?

Reading music, with dynamics, praising, musical indications, tempo, the various rhythms, and of course, notation and for pianist, reading two different clefs simultaneously and conquering the technical aspects is one of the most difficult things to do!.

Imagine, there are 5 line and 4 spaces between them, yet there are 12 different pitches between an octave!. Bizarre way to read note!. If only someone had Had The insight to have added a 6th line!.

Meanwhile, the question many ask when is my son or daughter doing to be able to just open up the music and play itself lacks any and all understanding of the complexity!.

The answer; the more you read the better you get!.!.!.!.and if you have ADD, an eye disorder, technical limitations, rhythm weakness, or a host of other problems, it becomes even the more difficult!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

G'day mate!. I've been playing for close enough to thirty five years!. one of my earliest memories is sitting on the front veranda of the house we were living in at the time & playing along on my mum's guitar with the radio my mum was listening to in the kitchen!.It was Deep Purrple, Smoke on the water (go-on, laugh if you must!)!. I would've been about five-ish, & the guitar was almost taller than me!
In the time between then & now, I've taught myself to play guitar, bass, mandolin & the fiddle completely by ear!. I don't (in fact can't) read or write music at all!.
I've played in too many bands to remember, worked as a soloist, done session work in studios, & taught!.
I've made a concerted point to learn something from everyone I've played with over the years, & one strange thing I've noticed is that people who play wholly by ear are more able to improvise(it's by no way a rule, i'm sure, it just happens to be my observation from the folks that I've been around)!.
I don't think not being able to read has impeded my ability to love my music, i can feel it with every part of me when i play, & i can actually hear it in my head (there's probably some sort of therapy i could have, i know!!)!. I think the secret is just to love what you do!
Cheers!. Mulga!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I started playing the flute when I was 13 and I started getting really good at it!. I was self taught so I didn't know how to read notes either!. I played it until I was 16 and decided I wanted to take it more seriously so I learnt to read music!. It takes a while to grasp but it's an essential skill to learn if you're serious about piano!. Because with this skill you can play other people's pieces as well and it's much easier to write music!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I play the cello, and up until recently, I still used to look at a note, as say '3rd on G string', as apposed to 'Ooh, thats a B natural, now wheres a B natural, ok, lets play that!.' I had no idea what the note names were!.

This may sound like a silly thing to say, but I recommend learning something else!. Still keep with the piano, but try and learn to play the recorder!. This will put everything in a completely different place, so you'll have to learn what the notes mean in order to locate it on the new instrument!.

For example, I've recently started learning double bass as well, and got a fingering chart!. But I needed to know what was what before I write it on, so I had to relearn it all!. I did it in a matter of days!

I hope this helps! Good luck xxWww@Enter-QA@Com

Some of the best musicians never learned to read a single note in their life!. I've been playing keyboards for 12 years, and I'm very slow at reading notes!. But I compose music, mostly for my own enjoyment, but occasionally for some indie films!. Reading notes is very useful, and I definitely recommend it, but it is not an absolute necessity to enjoy playing music!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

wow almost a decade with a piano and a teacher!?i think u should start learning how to read notes!.!.!.im not being sarcastic or anything but learning how to read notes makes things faster!.!.!.even if u can't sight read fast enough!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I can't read music either, but in the past I have written songs/commercials for the American Cancer society, plus many gospel songs which are still popular!.
