Bring a sampling of your sound and try and "sell" yourself to the venue owner!. Explain why you will bring people to his venue!. More often than not you will not make money until you establish yourself at these venues!. From the venues standpoint they need to attract more people, and the more people the more money they make through cover, drinks, and food sales!. So you need to market yourself and promote some hype to get people to come see you!. If you are starting out (sounds like the case) you need to make the "gig" entertaining, which will get people talking about your band!. Interaction with the crowd is key here!.
