Question: Led Zeppelin Backmasking!?
I'm sure all of the Zeppelin fans out there have heard about hearing "satanic" messages when playing Stairway backwards!. I got the lyrics of the entire song backmasked, downloaded a free program called Audacity so I could play the mp3 backwards!. When following the lyrics, it seems you can make out the words but I think you can very easily hear what you try to hear, especially when it is right in front of you!. I know Robert Plant and Swan Song Records denied the allegations of backmasking the song, does anyone know somehow if they really did!? Some theorys say that there are hints in Stairway related to the backmasking, "And if you listen very hard, the tune will come to you at last" I don't know, not sure if I am buying into the whole thing!. We actually studied this in History of American Music class!. Here is a very good link we used!. The general concensus of the class was that people hear what they want to hear and why in the world would anyone be playing a song backwards!? also, references were made to certain people just wanting attention!.

As to the meaning of the lyrics, we found this reference to be the best, after we analyzed the song oursselves and came to the same conclusion!.

The most recent word from Robert Plant and Swann Records is that they never denied or confirmed it officially!. In my opinion from what I've heard from the record and Zeppelin's refusal to deny it I do believe that there are back masked lyrics!. I do not believe Led Zeppelin were Satan worshipers!. To me it seems very clever!. What's the opposite of the Stairway to Heaven!? maybe the decent into hell!? So playing Stairway to Heaven backwards and hearing lines about Satan shouldn't be misconstrued as Satanic, rather as clever musicianship!. Just a thought!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

The back masking is just people hearing what they want to hear and a major urban legend!.
As far as what the song is about, I thought that was common knowledge: It is about a woman who spends all her time making money, but finds out the hard way her life had no meaning and will not get her into heaven!.
