Answers:
Yes!.!.!.but this is NOT a new technique!.!.!.it has actually been used for many many years now, it was not really made popular until Van Halen kicked it up a notch!. It is fairly hard, especially two-handed tapping, acoustic tapping, and harmonic tapping!. Just takes practice, after awhile it will seem really easy and then you can move on to the next step of tapping!. There are many many many ways to tap, just think about it!.!.!.you have 10 fingers that you can use!! And yes there are some people that use all 10 fingers to tap!.!.!.check out William Dotto!!!

First of all!.!.!.start slow and use a metronome!.!.!.don't try to tap all Van Halen style right out of the gates!.!.!.you need to learn how to crawl before you can walk!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

yea it's invented by Eddie Van Halen, dude its not that hard to do!. Well theres so many different kind of tapping like the two hand tapping is the easiest, the easiest way to do it for beginners is you put your first finger on the 1st string 5th fret and you have your 3rd finger ready on the 1st string 8th fret ready to hammer on and pull off when you begin to tap!. For your tapping finger you either can use your middle finger or index finger which ever way is comfortable for you, you tap it on the 12th fret and you use that 3rd hammer on pull off finger to hammer on, then once you release the tapping finger, you realese the hammering pulling off finger at the same time!. It should look like this on a tab (12t5h8)!. Then once you mastered this basics you can do the same thing on a different position of the fret board!. There also other kinds of tapping which is slightly more trickier, but stick with the two hand tapping!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Yeah, you'll have to practice it for a while before you get good at it!. Tapping can be a tiring technique for even the best players, and that's why most guitarists use it for the "short and sweet" parts of their solos!.

But an important part of doing effective tapping on the guitar is having the right gear!. It is much harder to perform if you have larger than 9 gauge strings, so I wouldn't recommend trying it unless you have an appropriate string size!.

Some guitarists will tell you that tapping doesn't sound good unless you are playing with distortion and high gain!. This helps a little to achieve that Van Halen sound, but someone who is good at tapping can do it with no distortion or high gain at all!. So develop the skill before you worry about amp settings and so on!.

Hope that helps and good luck!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Hey, this is a pretty cool technique!.

Its not too hard!. Can you hammer on and pull off!? If so, then this will be a breeze for you!. The most common way to do it is to fret a note (use the top E string - it is way easier) with your first finger!. Then fret the note that is two frets down (so like if your 1st finger was on fret 5, your 2nd finger would be on fret 7) with your second or third finger (whichever is more comfortable)

Now play the 1st finger fret and hammer on to the 2nd finger fret!. take your index finger of your right hand (strumming hand) and use it to hammer on to another fret!. (fret 12 should sound ok with the two frets i mentioned)!.

Then you just pull off with your right hand while only fretting the 1st finger fret, then you hammer on with your 2nd finger, then your right hand finger etc etc!. And Voila!!! lol

If you cant get it straight away, try practicing by playing your open top E and hammering on with your RIGHT index finger onto a fret of your choice!. Then pull off with you RIGHT index finger and keep doing this till you get it!.

Hope this helped!. You will be playing Dragonforce in no time! lol!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

for the commmon technique try sequencing the notes desending then ascending, example, tap the first not which will pull off to you pinky, thenpull of with you pinky, leaving the tonality of you index finger, hammer back on with your pinky and then with you tap finger, try it slow and with a metrenome but i advise you to practice fret hand pull off hammer on techniques, this can become more advanced and can be called "legato", after a while and with tonz of practice you can create the taping tonality with only you frett hand
keep practising and keep rockin

use your fingers to really hammer 'em down!.!.!.the real issue is that you are not picking the notes!.!.!.each note is produced by you "tapping" the strings with your fretting fingers

by the way, tapping has been around at LEAST as long as Van Halen's first album in the late 70sWww@Enter-QA@Com

New!? Hahaha, Tapping has been used in meta/rock for the past two decades!. It takes lots of practice too do it well!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Practice!.!.!.it's hard, and yes, I have heard of it!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
