Piano Help please? Dont know timing!?!

Question: Piano Help please!? Dont know timing!!?
"*!.!.!.Above all, volume, the timing of the attack (striking the key) and the timing of the release are jointly responsible for all the subtle nuances which a skilled player can get out of the piano!. All the careful positioning of wrist and fingers as you play is just a means to that end!.

I was once at a music seminar where a famous pianist
illustrated this point!. Hidden behind a screen, she played single notes on the piano and asked pianists in the group to guess which variety of touch she was using!. Finally the screen was removed, to show her hitting the key with the edge of a woman's magazine, tightly compressed!. No special touch at all!.

The moral was: you don't always hear what you think you hear!. Piano sound, she pointed out, is almost as mechanical and invariable as that of an organ: timing is everything!."

What is the Definition of timing!. Elaborate please!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
She might be referring to the speed at which the key is struck!. Or it might be agogic, which is some what of an illusion of accent through a delayed strike slightly after the beat!.

I have doubts how a magazine is able to simulate different touches!. Perhaps only on 1 note!. But touches usually is over entire passages, working in conjuction with phrasing and articulation!. Reducing the aspect of the touch to a mere mechanical strike does not do justice to the art!. I'm disappointed at this pianist, famous or not!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
