Well playing the lead guitarist, you should know scales and modes like the back of your hand!. That'd be a good start!.
As for making music!. You aren't going to get a magic formula from Yahoo Answers!.
You need to understand music theory!. Basic Progressions, Scales, Modes, and Harmonies!.
The best way is to get your melody together!. Figure out what key it's in!. Then write the appropriate chords / notes that fit with the melody that is being sung!.
