A question for fans of Don Caballero?!

Question: A question for fans of Don Caballero!?
I recently became fascinated by Don Caballeros music and music by other "math-rock" bands!. As a musician the most entertaining part for me is to figure out the patterns in what seems like melodic chaos!. Though on certain songs it seems like it takes forever for me to figure it out!.
I haven't met anyone in person that has heard of this band or this genre!. And most people I show it to don't really understand it!.
Why were you attracted to this genre!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

The main reason they appeal to me has a lot to do with the fact that I used to (still do) spend a great deal of time listening to and experimenting with loads of lesser known progressive, fusion, and hard rock bands during the 70's like; Arti + Mestieri, Egg, Supersister, Van Der Graaf Generator, Soft Machine, Hattfield & the North, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Gentle Giant, Sweet Slag, Marsupilami, Ruphus, Amon Duul II, Hampton Grease Band, Gnidrolog, Venigoni & Co, etc ect ect!.
Many of these bands employed unusual time signatures, and off the wall syncopation which as a musician myself, really seemed to intrigue me!. King Crimson is a prime more mainsteam example of this, as is Primus!. also, additive and divisive rhythms weren't all that common in mainstream rock at the time, let alone irregular-meter experiments like 11/4, and 9/8 time!. To add to this, the combination between consonant, and dissonant chord structures!.!.!.especially when the dissonance is applied on the stronger beats, makes for an interesting experience!.

Essentially, Don Caballerro plays great 70's style prog, with a modern twist!. I hear many recycled riffs within their music, that a few decades ago were pioneered by many of the aforementioned bands!. This is why I love Don Caballero!

My favorite albums are;
Don Caballero 2
What Burns Never Returns
World Class Listening Problem

I highly recommend these more recent bands who have also been tagged with the label 'math rock'!.!.!.
Battles
B*tch Magnet
Storm and Stress
Polvo
Belliini
Taking Pictures

Some of these bands feature members of Don Caballero; Damon Che (drums), and Ian Williams (guitar)!.

Nice to see another fan of this great band! But I have to be totally honest with you!.!.!.I hate the genre name 'math rock'!. lolWww@Enter-QA@Com

You described it perfectly in the term melodic chaos which is what I enjoy about the math-rock genre!. Most songs seem to have a constant repetitive pattern to it but bands like Don Cab throw all sorts of twists into their sound!. I cannot speak in technical terminology very well but the meter is not the standard 4/4!. Rather, it involves an off beat or a constantly fluctuating meter!. If you're into Don Cab, check out bands such as From monuments to Masses, Drive Like Jehu, or Rodan, who later went on to form other math-rock bands such as June of '44 and Shipping News, amongst others!. Good stuff, that!.

I agree totally with Smiley, terrible genre name but great sound!Www@Enter-QA@Com

I grew up on it watching Sesame Street!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
