Question: On the guitar, how come there are more than one way of playing a certain chord - they sound different so how!.!.
can they be the same chord!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
It is chord inversions!.
If all players played one chord in one inv, it would sound dull!. playing an inversion adds another note in the scale to make it sound richer!. (Barre or open)Www@Enter-QA@Com

There is probably a long scientific explanation, but I am just glad this is the way it is, and use certain chords for certain parts of songs, and the same chord in other positions, sometimes in the same song - as you correctly stated, it can have a different tone to it, say happy as opposed to sad, and that can really make a difference to the song you are playing!.

Just enjoy it - as the French say, "Vive la Difference"!Www@Enter-QA@Com

I'm guessing here because I'm not a guitarist, but some strings will be shorter than others and the tone could ring more on some notes of the chord and bring out different tone-qualities in each position!.

Another reason could be the inversions of chords when you play them in different ways!. i!.e!. if it is a G chord for example, the G may be at the bottom of the chord in one version, and the middle or top of the chord in another version!. The same for other notes within the chord!. This would definately make them sound different!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

A chord is made of certain notes!.Because there are so many notes on the fretboard there are countless variations of the same chord!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
