Answers:
Richard Davis was always a stand out!. He played behind Sarah Vaughan, and stood out there!. He played in avant guard music in the late 1960's and stood out in those settings!.

I don't want to overwhelm you with suggestions of Richard Davis, so I will just suggest one of his best!. He plays on Booker Ervin's Freedom Book album!. That album is great because there is no clear leader!. The whole band (quartet) are constantly playing off each other, and Davis is so creative!. Davis has amazing skills, but what makes him so great is that he is an artist!. If you listen to this album, what I have said here will be obvious!. If you want to hear more of Davis, try Bobby Hutcherson's Dialogue album!. One of the best albums in the history of jazz, in my little opinion!. Davis is a total artist in that setting!.

Other greats!.!.!.

Charles Mingus was a legendary bassist!. He led his own bands!. He is great on all of them, and he went through many various styles!. I will suggest the album called Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus!. Mingus stands out big time!.

For a more traditional sound check out Coleman Hawkins Night Hawk album!. I remember when I got that album, I couldn't wait to hear Hawkins and Lockjaw Davis on saxes, but Ron Carter's bass kept grabbing my attention!. Carter is another legend of the bass, he first got famous playing with Miles Davis!.

Bob Cranach plays bass on Lee Morgan's classic Sidewinder album!. You can listen to just him the whole album and be entertained!.

Paul Chambers plays bass on Red Garland's trio album called Groovy!. You can hear Chambers well in this trio setting!. He plays great walking bass lines!.

That's all I'm going to list!. I didn't reveal any hidden jazz greats!. These bassists are all well known masters!. I think the particular albums that I have suggested are their best!. These albums are also relatively easy to find!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
