I agree 100% ,most, (not all ) is trash these days!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Country Music has been slowly going to the dogs for over 30 years !. It could not do it altogether as long as many of the older real country artists were alive !. Now that most of the real ones have passed on , it has gone completely , and irreversibly to the hounds!.

If country music has not changed , then I challenge anyone who likes the modern stuff and who says they like country music to name one song by Hawshaw Hawkins , Red Foley , Hank Williams , Ernest Tubb , Little Jimmy Dickens !.!.!.!.!.!.fact is they dont like country music , and dont know what it really is !. They only know what the new breeds want them to know , nothing more !!!!!

As far as I know , no ( as in NONE ) so called "country" radio station has played anything resembling country in a quarter century !.Www@Enter-QA@Com

i'm just going to quote song lyrics that express my feelings

"i'm tired of runway cowboys and polished pop songs what happened to our roots man where did we go wrong!?"--j!.b!. beverley & the wayward drifters

"10 years from now all the old singers will be dead in their graves, who's gonna carry on that old time sound!? not the f***ers you hear on radio country" --those poor bastards

"the kind of country i'm hearin now days is a bunch of f***ing s*** to me, they say that i'm ill mannered that i'm gonna self destruct, but if you know what i'm thinkin, you'll know that pop country really sucks"--hank williams III

"no there will never be another red-headed stranger, a man in black and folsom prison blues, the okie from muskogee, or hello darlin!. Lord I wonder who's gonna fill their shoes!?"--george jones

"shoulda known it when they closed the opry down, things are bound to change in that town, you can’t grow when you rip the roots out of the ground, looks like that nashville rash is getting’ ‘round"--dale watson

I listen to the truckers on the c!.b!. whine about the price of fuel!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

This is a great question!!

I have been thinking about this very thing lately!. Jerico911 said it very eloquently, and I think he's right!. The country "stars" of the past mostly came from rural lifestyles, and therefore put out music about what they knew!. It was a uniquely American experience with a uniquely American sound!. Because of the rural topics, background of the singers, and the rural sound, we called it "Country"!. As the rural areas of our country are dwindling, and more people are living in urban areas than ever before, it's only natural that the music that is put out about people's experiences becomes more urban sounding!.

"Modern Country" is valuable for what it is, a reflection of the values of our society!. "Classic" country still draws people in because it reminds us of simpler times, when life was hard, but you earned what you got and you were genuine, a reflection of our past!. I love Classic country music because it does take me to a time when the values of society were different, and part of me still longs for that time!. I also love modern country music, because it connects to who I am now, living in America in 2008!. I'm not a purist because I enjoy almost all music!. One of the strongest positives for "modern" country music, though, is that it actually is drawing people back to some of their rural roots!. More people are listening to classic country because they like what they hear in "modern" country and are looking for more!.

There is also the monetary issue that Jerico911 also brought up!. Back in the day, Country musicians were not well paid celebreties!. They played every county fair they could get their name into, they played in bars and honkey tonks, and were not selling out arenas - that would have been unheard of!. When artists like Garth Brooks came onto the scene and started selling out major venues, people started to figure out that they could do 100 shows a year to larger crowds and make more money than if they were doing 300 shows a year and barely making a living!. Again, a reflection of our society!. We all want to work less and have more, and it's silly of us not to expect that same mentality from people who we are willing to pay big time bucks to go see, and then buy their music!. Society has created this!.

I say, listen to what makes your heart sing along and your feet keep the beat!. There is some value in all music - it puts the human experience to rhyme and meter with a good beat and you can dance to it!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Nice topic!. Country, like rock, still has a lot of "pure" artists that are putting out good stuff with deep roots in the American experience!. The country artists of today are still writing and singing about the realities of life around them and what they feel, trademarks of what we consider country!. It's pretty well accepted that you don't have to come from the "holler" to be considered country these days!. And that will become truer and truer as we get further and further from being rural!. It's more about a moral system and an honest way of life that we call "down home"!. than anything!. And there are many artists that still carry that on!. No, it doesn't sound the same as Johnny Cash or Merle or the great pioneers of country music!.!.!.We have to change as America changes!. Here's the twist though!.!.!.!. It may not sell!!! Music is big buisness and these guys can put together an image and ram it down your throat so easily it's ridiculous!. Large corporations can make a star overnight with some talented studio musicians, the hottest chicks, the coolest shades, a background thats the bomb, and a topic like "life is a party" and Bammmm you got a hit!.!.and maybe an award!.!.!.It's called buisness and it runs on "payola"!.!.Pour money in to get money out!.!.!.!.Lots of money out!. And, you're right, that aint country!. But we buy it!. The songs are pretty shallow and even good artists like Toby Keith and Alan Jackson, and a few others have to pay there dues with commercial crap before they can do what they want to do!. Look at the depth of Toby's songs recently as compared to some of the crap that made him famous!. Better songs!? yes!. Better sellers!? no!. Alls you can do is keep moving forward and learn to differentiate commercial glitz from true country art!.!.!. But above all keep lovin it!. Keep it countryWww@Enter-QA@Com

Personally I like some of the "Country" music that's out today!. But I agree, classic country is much better!. Like artists like Johhny Cash, Hank Sr!., Loretta Lynn!.

I feel that by todays standards, Elvis's music would be considered country music now!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
