I think there are a few things you have to understand:

1) You obviously have the ambition and desire to make it as a jazz musician!. This will really help you out as making it in the music business is mostly about persistence and waiting for your 'big break'!.

2) However with the amount of practice your doing I am more sceptical!. Most of the best jazz musicians practise at least an hour if not several a day!. This can be hard and realistically it doesn't happen all the time but practice is the only way in which you'll improve!. I know people like Chet Baker hardly did any practice but there are the odd geniuses!. Just search YouTube for some young jazz prodigies and you'll see what I mean!.

3) Following on from this idea there is normally always someone who is better than you, and probably younger!. The key is to not be phased by the 'big boys' and have the confidence and drive to make yourself better!.

4) It is great that you can "play scales insanely fast" and to a certain extent bragging about your musical ability is the only way that you will get into the music business (no one will take you seriously if you say you're "alright")!. However it is so important not to become too cocky and egotistical, as if you say your amazing and then fall flat on your face when that alto player 3 years younger than you roasts you onstage, your confidence will be shattered!.

5) Finally, and most importantly, DON'T STOP PLAYING!Www@Enter-QA@Com

YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!You do have a chance to become a famous jazz musician!.Every body has a chance if they work really hard!.I'm about the same age as you and I'm aiming for the same goal as you!.I play flute and alto saxophone as well!.Maybe someday we'll perform in the same professional band without us knowing it!.Just keep doing what you're doing and you WILL meet your goal and maybe FARTHER!.Hope we meet someday!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Hmm, im sure you're good but with Jazz it's not about what you can play, it's how you play it!.!.!.you need to be good at interpretation of music!. also a lot of Jazz is improvisation, so you need to be good with the key signatures!. Work on that and you could do well!Www@Enter-QA@Com

there are thousands of people out there who have true rich talent that never make it big!.!.!.!. you have about the same chance as you would playing the lotto!. don't stop trying though, if you think you've got what it takes go for it! the worst you'll be told is no!.

i wish you all the best!Www@Enter-QA@Com

No one listens to jazz except old black men, and by the time you think your ready to go pro, they'll all be dead, and the jazz generation with die along with them!. You will have wasted your whole life trying to become a musician, and it'll all be for nothing!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

If you put in the time, effort and are always learning you can make it!. Just take it seriously and seek professional advice!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

sorry but I didn't think there were any famous jazz musicians around!. Name one sax player besides Kenny G just being honest but follow your dreams for sureWww@Enter-QA@Com

yes! you can be what ever you want to be! Its America! Oh and just pray about it!Www@Enter-QA@Com

anything is possible
keep practicing and give it a couple of yearsWww@Enter-QA@Com

not a chance!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

you sound good , but honestly if you wanna make it to the top you have to practice an HOUR A DAY!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I played music professionally most of my life, so I know you can do it if you want it bad enough!. I guarantee one thing though, 2 hours of practice a week won't do it!. 1 hour a day won't do it!. If you want it, you have to work for it!. When I was playing full time our band rehearsed 3 hours a day 3 to 4 days a week and performed 5 hours 5 days a week plus 2 after hours jam sessions on Friday and Saturday nights!. Playing your axe has to be like talking or singing!. It's a lot of work, but it's really beautiful too!. If you're a musician it's not just what you do!.!.!.!.!.it's what you are!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Firstly, I'm not an old black man, and I listen to jazz everyday!. When I go to shows in New York, I see a lot of different people in the audience (most are young)!. Apparently, "Douchbag" is too busy watching the MTV to know anything about what jazz really is!.

As far as being able to make music your full time gig, its possible!. An answer above said that there are many talented people who don't make it!. That's true in lots of other fields of art, but if you are truly great, it obvious to the real jazz listener, and you will get noticed!. Jazz fans know their music!.

I have kn idea if you are good enough, right now!. I suggest taking a trip to the jazz capital of the world-New York City!. Go to the clubs and see for yourself!. Bring your horn, and if you think you are ready, ask if you can sit in!. That's the best way to tell, go right to the source!.

I hope you do it!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Honestly I doubt it!. I've been in the business for a while and seen some ridiculously talented teenagers!. (check out GraceKellyMusic dot-com - she's your age) Even they are unlikely to make a big name for themselves!.

The thing about the jazz world is, unlike in pop music, you can't fake it!. Only the best really emerge as icons!. Here are some tips to join them:

1!. Be a genius!.
2!. Practice like a maniac - you need to be obsessed, especially during the 14-20ish years!.
3!. Learn a LOT!. There are hundreds or thousands of Standards for you to REALLY learn - absorb and analyze!. There is also a lot of jazz and music theory to learn and apply!. This step never ends!.
4!. Be unique - there are thousands of amazing players, but the only ones that turn heads in the jazz world are the ones saying something interesting!. Developing your own voice takes years of exploration, exposure, and introspection!.
5!. Compose!. It's never too soon to start writing your own music!.
6!. Meet and play with as many other gifted musicians as you can!. This will give you both experience and connections!.
7!. Don't waste your time here online!. I doubt Coltrane or Parker spent much time asking people if they could be great!.
8!. Work hard - if you do this, you may be able to skip step one!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Well, Jazz is dead!. You can't really do anything new in the genre!. It's been played out!. The only people that buy new recordings of jazz are old ladies and other people that like Kenny G!. So the question is can you become a famous jazz musician!? Probably not!. If you're good enough you can probably become a studio musician, which is an exceptionally cool thing to be!. I have to say, I studied jazz for a few years throughout highschool, and there isn't much you can do that hasn't been done before while still being able to call what you're playing "Jazz"!. Anybody who listens to jazz in this day and age isn't looking for new musicians to listen to!. They're all listening to the classics, like Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, and John Coltrane!. People like the Marsalis's are just trying to make this the "American Classical"!. But that's unnecessary as there are already recordings of all the classic pieces by the people who wrote them!. The reason people play classical still is because nobody knows exactly what the original artists' interpretation sounds like, so they make their own interpretation!. But that's beside the point!. So, no, I don't think anyone will ever be considered great again, in the jazz genre!. You could become famous, though!. But being great and being famous are two entirely different things!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
