What's the point in bands making singles?!
Question: What's the point in bands making singles!?

Originally singles were the big money market, when record sales were at their peak!. Since singles stopped selling in high volumes it is done for several reasons:
1) test a new act: rather than record an entire album (expensive) just record a single & gauge an acts potentail success based on the singles sales!.
2) promote an album: album sales now generate alot money for an act, so a single is seen as a taster for the album, release a good single & people will be more likely to buy the upcoming album
3) promote a tour: touring & merchandise generate money, releasing a single that will get airplay just before 7 during a tour to keep the acts name in peoples minds!.
4) people collect singles: big name acts have fans who want to own everything that act releases, regardless of quality!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
