You can blame the record companies for encouraging that trash!. Early rap recordings dealt with social problems such as gangs, violence, police brutality, and poverty!. Then rapper Ice-T recorded a song called "Cop Killer" in the early 1990s!. The resulting backlash caused the record companies to become very nervous because many people felt the song was saying it was all right to kill cops!. Since then, rappers seem to have largely stayed away from those subjects because rapping about selling drugs, degrading women, and getting shot is a safer alternative to rapping about touchy subjects like police brutality plus it's what sells!.
