A was listening to a song and it got me wondering...?!

Question: A was listening to a song and it got me wondering!.!.!.!?
!.!.!.will Hip Hop's Black ancestors get less credit than the white ones!? It seems as though African-American artists dont get as much aclaim, dont sell as much, etc!. as white hip hop artists!. When Rock & Roll is spoken of, it is seldom spoken of as "black music" as hip hop is, though black people were the ancestors of Rock & Roll as well!. When i speak to so many of my white friends the majority of the artists they listen to are causian, it seems that too many people listen to an artist of their race first!. considering white folk are the majority in america, i figure they will be doing the history writing!. i was just wondering, when this hip hop thing is all over: will white artists get more aclaim than black artists because of their race!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

I get what you're saying!. I've actually thought about that myself!. The thing that really separates hip hop from its predecessors is (as weird as this is to say) its acceptance!.

African-Americans invented jazz, blues and rock n roll but they weren't accepted by mainstream (White) America until White Americans started performing those genres!. Hip hop, on the other hand, has gained whatever measure of acceptance it has while still being overwhelmingly dominated by African-Americans artists!.

Additionally, we're living in a time when far more artists have control of their music!. Previously, artists were at the mercy of their record labels, almost all of which were White owned!. Today, artists have more say in what is done with their music!. Furthermore, there are many more labels that are run by African-Americans!.

So I don't think that hip hop will fall prey to the same things that happend to its older siblings!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I agree because right now it's being purposely done!. You don't hear about the originators of RHH!. If you were to poll the "die hard commercial listener" fan of RHH on who is DJ Kool Herc!? 75% wouldn't know and that is beyond sad!. "They" are trying to purposely ruined RHH because it's the one thing they can't fully take over!. "They" stole Rock & Roll and it's sad the youth is so blind!. But I guessed I'm an idiot for not following trends and for not being under media control!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Race really isn't a factor with me!.!.!.how could I!.!.!.!.

I would be listening to nothing because I'm mexican!.!.how many mexican rappers are out there!?!?!?not many GOOD ones!.!.!.I listen to black rappers more than anything!.!.!.

and white people would prolly listen to white rappers so that they wouldn't be called wiggers cuz they are imitating white rappers not black!.!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

When its "all over"!?

Okay Nostradamus!.

BTW, Blacks are acknowledged as the pioneers of Rhythm and Blues which is recognized as Rock!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I like Eminem and Paul Wall, a little of Slug is okay if I want to sink into a depression!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

no!.

that wouldnt make any sense!.!.

besides that!.!. we lived through it!.!.!. so we know where credit is due!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

no!. it wont!. there are few good white artists!.

edit: im speakin in terms of when hiphop is gone!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I think hip-hop overall is viewed at as an African-American creation!. Far more black people rap than white people, so in the short-term!.!.!.the rare white rappers will get more money/recognition!. However in the long run most people will give credit to the good rappers!.

You're right about black people founding rock music or blues as it was!. I think a lot of ppl look at what they did as a separate genre as say Led Zeppelin b/c they sound so different!. I think rock now is viewed as a white type of music, but like rap!.!.!.!.when there is a rare black rock star like Jimi Hendrix!.!.!.people take notice!. Unlike many white rappers, however, he was actually good enough to become a legend and have a greater long-term success!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I agree with Mud Family, this must be more an American thing!. Over here hip hop is considered "black music", it always has been and I don't see that changing!.

The difference between hip hop and music like rock and roll is that although rock and roll also has its roots in black culture (and is sadly not given much credit for that), hip hop is the first music to come from black culture that has been so vocal about that fact!. Not that other genres have never spoken on black issues, but never to the extent that hip hop does!.

I can't speak for what will happen in the States, but I just don't see that being the case elsewhere!.

I gotta disagree with people listening to their own race first too!. I've never found that to be the case!. I've got a white dad who loves blues, Brasilian friends who love Scottish music and black friends who listen to country!. Good music is good music!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

america must be totaly different to u!.k

i am not meaning it funny!.

like everyone i know who likes hip/hop and you ask who there fav rapper is they will name a black artist!.

like i like eminem nothing to do with race!.

theres probably 4 white rappers i like at the minute

skinnyman - eminem - ozmosis - devlin

against about 30 black rappers i like!.

so i dont think white artist will get most of the credit!.

edit - #RiCa# - i listen to black and white artists
white people listen to what they like just like anyone else does race has nothing to do with it!

so if people say im a wigger because i like black hip/hop artists the i guess im a wigger!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
